Guess-the-Friend meme
Oct. 1st, 2004 04:27 pmWell. I gacked this meme from
cathexys and here it is: A list of some of my Friends, without names, and for you to guess who's who. You may guess yourself or another person. I am woefully sorry that I wasn't able to include anyone. The list is just too long (how did things get so out of hand? when I joined this place, I had 1 (one) friend!). But now I've got to rush and pick up the sons!!
1) You are the cutest person, and the loveliest, and your posts from climes up north always cheer me up. You literally wormed your way into my heart and onto my Friends list through sheer force of tigging.
2) When we met, we clicked, and had such a fun evening. I've empathised with you on your trials and tribulations, and know we've been through some downs. So it's especially nice to read posts when you're on the up.
3) You lured me onto LJ and what a life-changing event that was! Serious musings about writing and intrepid goings-beyond and commitment to quality, that's you.
4) I was in awe of you for a long time but through sheer persistent lurking have started to cherish and love your posts, not just for their philosophical fearlessness and unfailing defence of the deeply porny and porniest, but just because it's nice to hear from you, oh colleague-in-arms.
5) Quirky, mad old person from t'north, what would this online life be without you? How I miss your txts and gloriously irreverent fics.
6) I've known you forever and a day and still swoon over some of your fics. You were the first author I ever AIMed with, and you've often pulled me down to earth when my writing fancies threatened to take off for the skies. Such dyed-in-the-wool hot, hot slash.
7) I came, I saw, I swooned. And then I met and you were so lovely. Fragile, too, and beautiful.
8) It's your academic slashiness that pulled me in and is keeping me there. I am impressed, I am amused, I am delighted, and I'm so glad I'm getting to know you better. Also: you inspired the meme, so there's a give-away.
9) You lovely Lakritzy person! You bring a smile to my face.
10) Oh, those hammerings over Martin and Mary on the anvil of slashy Protestantism. And those terse pieces of prose you can write: they are inscribed on my brain.
11) You're on my list because of your fic. You write such versatile stories, they simply amaze me. But do you even know I exist?
12) The very first person I ever contacted online about fanfic, that's you. I used to be so in awe of you, my portal to smut. And inadvertently you taught me a lesson.
13) You're here, and you're here to stay, and it's meant a lot to me when I've felt down. I can ramble on about anything to you, and hey, a new fandom…?!
14) Sweet old witch from the East, I'm so happy you're looking forward to a new life! And perhaps more off-the-wall and beautifully characterised fic to follow, perhaps?
15) I friended you way back when, and then you changed your name twice, and now I hear rarely from you, but I love your political posts.
16) Hey, what can I say? You're here because you're an old, unflappable hand at this slash malarkey and unfazed in the face of nonsense.
17) Ah, you amazed me with your artistic skills and intrigue me with your naughty shenanigans. Naughty but somehow also the quintessence of innocence.
18) Academic angsting is us. Always great to talk to you and when will we finally meet?!
19) Lyrical niceness comes from you now and again in the form of lovely pic posts. And ghosty fics.
20) I stumbled over your fics in a fandom you've long since left ages ago, and I loved and adored them. And all of a sudden I rediscovered you in my new, mad fandom and what a breeze of fresh air blew through the cobwebs of fanon on that glorious day!
21) I've known you for about as long as I've known anybody in the online world. You're part of my life now, somehow, and I'm interested in everything, your unusual fic and your ups and sadly, all your downs as well.
22) Where are you? Woman of the difficult question and the contrary stubbornness! I hope you're having fun with your family, and will you ever finish that WIP??
23) I've known you forever, faithful beta of yore, and may soon meet you in the flesh, finally! You are a pillar of my list.
24) Are you okay? Mystery woman from Austria.
25) Well, what can I say about one of the loveliest, sexiest, real-life-hungriest and energy-sparkingest persons I've met via the online life? Insightful judger of prose, writer of supremely erotic beauty and astute debunker of fanonic myths.
26) Nice person from Kullervo's north. And one of the greatest usernames evah.
27) Ah, we bonded over defending our mutual friend nr.1 and had great fun spamming an awful supercilious twat.
28) Have not known you long but you are everywhere and always there and so committed to my new whatsit. Very trustworthy about many things, and hope to see you around for a long time to come for better acquaintance.
29) Academic co-slasher of the north, with your short pithy pieces and inimitably lyrical prose.
30) You wrote the most beautiful fic that converted me there and then to my new fandom along whose pathways I stumble with your fanon as my signpost.
31) It was so lovely to meet you on that wintry day in a southern land. You sweet and thoughtful LJ presence.
32) Another great LJ name and overlapping careery paths in the realms of art. So interesting to read your thoughts on that difficult land of yours.
33) I've known you for a very short time but already you have inspired me!
34) Cycling, popping, wrestling with banks: such varied and delightful posts!
I love you all! Including the ones left out here!
ETA: What's the etiquette of this meme-thing, btw? Do you reveal the names after a suitable interval? Or do you veil it all in mystery for evah aftah?

1) No idea.
2)
3)
4) I feel like I should know this one, but I don't.
5) Um.
6)
7)
8) Well, I would have said I don't know, but you gave that enormous "hint," so I suppose this is
9) Is "lakritzy" a made up word? I don't know.
10) Dunno.
11) Er. Someone from HP fandom? Who wouldn't know you in Lotrips?
12) I've already used up
13) And now I'm wanting to repeat
14) Don't know.
15) I'm trying to think of who I know who has changed their name. I know Gloria changed her name once, but did she do it again? And should I change one of the three guesses I have about her now to someone else? ;p
16) I don't know, but I think maybe I should.
17) Er.
18) No idea.
19) Don't know.
20) HP person?
21) Uh. I think I should also know this person, but I don't.
22) This is the only one I'm sure of so far:
23) I'm trying to remember who has beta'ed for you.
24) Not a clue.
25) Maybe this one is
26) Dunno.
27) Dunno.
28) HP person?
29) Dunno.
30) Um. I can't remember when you first read
31) Don't know.
32) Don't know.
33) Dont know.
34) "Cycling" makes me think this has to be
So now I've come to the end, and I haven't guessed myself for anything. So maybe I'm not on here, but if I had to hazard a guess... actually, I can't make a guess. But I'd narrow it down to one of the writing ones.

Date: 2004-10-01 09:18 pm (UTC)Okay: nr. 2 - wrong
nr. 3 - quite, quite wrong! (heh, this is fun)
nr. 5 - Well, Sheldrake would like to be nr. 5, it would seem, but she isn't.
nr. 6 - Well, Gloria's on here, but that's not her. Oh dear.
nr. 7 - Uh-oh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (World's least fragile young person.)
8 - Yup. Well, thank the lordy I did give a hint because this is your first bingo!
9 - Lakritz, my dear, are those German liquorice cats I like eating. They used to feature in an icon of mine which also featured Karl. Possibly this is why you don't know what they are: the image of Karl blinded you temporarily. *g*
11 - Yes! Very good! And someone whom I've feedbacked about a dozen times and who has never replied. Isn't that sad? (For me?)
12 - You have, and it's a good guess but alas, also wrong.
13 - Hoohaa, yes!!! *congratulates*
15 - Did you ever know
16 - I think you might have met her. But perhaps not. She lives in your country.
17 - Yes! Well guessed! As to shenanigans, she once naughtily bared her bra for the world to see... Well, I found it naughty, anyhow.
20 - HP, and formerly popslash. *g*
22 - Yes!!! Where is that woman? I miss her.
23 - Yes, the Eyebrow has beta'ed for me but this is not she. *g*
25 - Yes!!
28 - Well spotted!
30 - No. This is not she. I did read this quite at the start but not at the very, very start.
34 - Good guess but wrong, alas.
You are very brave to have tried to guess them all! I'm amazed at how many you got right, considering you possibly don't know a lot of these people. But you didn't manage to pick yourself, Jenn, oh Jenn.
nr. 8 -

30) Ooh. Er..
31) Dunno. Psychic bit of my brain very tired now.
32) Lots of clues here, but it's obviously someone I don't know, so would be cheating to research. Not to mention very sad indeed.

From:Eeek!
Date: 2004-10-02 12:17 am (UTC)You know, in RL, I'm that reliable, hard-working drone of a woman, mother, wife, taxpayer, who has so little time now I barely have time to read posts let alone respond. When I started out on the net, I was on maternity leave with my son, and had all the time in the world to write porny slash and mary sues. Then I got employed and I struggled from then on to find enough time to follow my muse. Now, I spend time arguing politics with a bunch of right wing Americans and left wing Brits on another forum. I write no slash or fanfic any longer, and spend any spare writing time on my original fiction. I'm completely out of fandom, and miss it terribly but no one fandom has drawn me in enough since LOTR to make me want to write fanfic. I've been seduced by HP but I always like wierd pairings. I've enjoyed reading other people's slash in the SV universe, but never wrote in it. And LOTR is now just a fond memory to me. Until something else comes along, I'm in fandom limbo and am now just reading original fic and writing it.
Sigh. I still read all your posts though!
Is #4 Thamiris? I'm been a stalker fangirl of hers since I entered KSmithares fandom when my son was a suckling.
Smooches.
;-)
Re: Eeek!
Date: 2004-10-02 09:23 pm (UTC)Yes, nr. 4 is Thamiris! Possibly I clicked my way through to her via you, did I? Or was it via Eyebrowofdoom?
I remember you leaving LJ to write origfic and I remain impressed by that very much. Nr. 11 did same and has now finished novel and got an agent or something so! People do! Not I, though.
I know about missing fandom. I was a bit bereft when I got bored with lotrips though I didn't notice it at first because of the boredom factor. But those heady days... HP is a good substitute but hasn't got the same frisson and obsession factor for me. Although there are compensations, such as novel-length fics of truly astounding quality. But although much tedious canon discussion and a canon that is so thin it's diaphanous. And if you like weird pairings: I discovered them quite quickly in HP, *g*. I am writing one myself and am obsessed with that, my new OTP Draco/Dudley. And there is wonderful Crabbe/Goyle fic about, just wonderful. There's a wonderful one with Gilderoy and one with Percy and a hoot one with the Squid (!) and some boring ones with Hagrid (I can't stand Hagrid, weird or no).
Um, I digress. Weirdness will lure me every time! But oh, the angst of Agent Smith!
Hope you're okay, honey. I remember about a year or more ago you were mentioning a rough time. :-)
