I just spent about an hour, typing about 5 pages worth of Boring!Orli nr. 18 into the LJ posting box (as is my wont with Boring!Orli whose principle is speedy spontaneity). Then I pressed, stupidly stupidly, the command-R button. The page refreshed!

I thought, not to worry. I'd been doing command-C's (copyings) at regular intervals. I thought I'd lost a few paragraphs, very annoying.

So I pressed command-V (paste) and one bloody line popped up! I forgot that I had stupidly hit command-X (delete) and NOW ALL OF BORING!ORLI 18 HAS DISAPPEARED INTO THE ETHER!!!

Has this happened to anyone before? Is there any way to retrieve a lost LJ post??

Is there anybody in the world as stupid as I?

*bangs head on keyboard in despair*

Do I rewrite the thing or do I go to bed, with my heart weeping???!!

I have lost many a story to the ether. I empathize. Unfortunately I know not how to retrieve them from the depths of internet hell.

Good luck to you.

(By the way, it's Muffin.)

Eep, Orlisbunny!

Your birthday ficlet has evidently unleashed a flood of pent-up Orli's bunnies! And now I am foiled! FOILED!

This is the ether, sorely testing my perseverance here. It must be ordained somewhere.

It hasn't ruined my day, you noggin! It has made my day!

Any road, I've now rewritten 4 pages of the 5 I lost. Memory is an amazing thing.

Write through the pain, I say.

you're amazing!

Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You're everything I wish I could be.
I could fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the Wind Beneath My Wings.

Bloody-fucky-cunty-pooh!

I am now rewriting in Word. I'm evidently too stupid for LJ.

i actually use word pad for that very purpose!!! b/c word has smart quotes turned on which screws with formatting...

but yes, i try to avoid the lj interface whenever i can help it...so, you're definitely not alone in feeling like a bloody idiot :-)

where have you been? i've missed talking with you :-)

This happens to me all the time. If I am in love with what I wrote and fear it could be lost forever if I wait, then I rewrite right away. If it's something that I think is still with me, I often choose to wait in favor of stepping away from the computer entirely.

D'oh.

I can't believe I just did the former in order to indulge in a vision of Orli masturbating his vagina.
