I have two permanent icons:

Plus one sort of changeable one which, at the moment, is:

But what would a better third icon be? I keep chopping and changing number 3. Which of these do YOU like best for me? Or do I devise a new one?

Did you notice that the "mmm fish" icon of the man's head had a torso icon directly beneath it? Visually, you get a woman's body with a man's head. :=)

I like the icons of the hands...particularly the pair of hands and the one hand with the rings on it.

BTW, out of curiousity...what is the name of the man you see as the Older Harry? I love seeing who people visualize as the "older" HP characters. :=)

Gael Garcia Bernal.

He is awesome in:
Bad Education (Almodovar film - he plays a transvestite, a homosexual, a straight guy -- all fantastically acted)
Motorcycle Diaries
Y tu mama tambien
Amores perros

He's my Harry because of the lantern jaw. Only Harry's jaw is even more lantern in my eyes. *g*

Ah yes, the hands... Karl's hand was my desktop picture for years.

Ah, Desert Prince... [livejournal.com profile] _ming made that one for me; it's part of a whole 'book' cover. But I only use it for DP posts. It is very rare these days, alas.

Oh, and the hand ones... So glad you like those! Karl's hand was my desktop picture for years. He has the most *gorgeous* hands. But Karl is sort of not part of my life right now. But I've gone away since posting this and made myself a whole new shiny icon so we'll see if that has any sort of shelf life!!

ROTFL

he really is a perfect dudley...the way i think dudley is once you take away harry's obviously biased pov...heavyset, not very intelligent, a bully... *not* my definition of gorgeous :D

Ah yes, I forgot that I am Sue!ing Draco, and Draco finds Dudley gorgeous. So take away Harry's biased pov and substitute Draco's biased pov, and hey presto: you have gorgeous!Dudley! (And Draco is really into heavyset, not very intelligent bullies, as we know from his years hanging round Crabbe'n'Goyle.)

Dudley is not dumb, however. There is no canon evidence for Dudley being of low intelligence. In fact, when Harry first sees Draco, he is reminded of Dudley -- so Dudley is certainly not any more stupid than Draco. In fact, I like to think of Dudley as having a certain kind of sharp shrewdness, a sort of listige Bauernschläue.

Or do you know something canon that I don't know?

bauernschläue i can totally buy!!! no, no canon evidence...just a sense of the entire family not incredible gifted with intellect or sensitivity...

i don't want draco to like dudley...but i can see your argument :-) [but isn't one of the things he likes about crabbe&goyle that they *are* not very bright bullies???]

The entire family not very gifted...?? *splutters* Petunia (who is Dudley's mum) is Lily's sister and Lily is Harry's mum and Harry is not stupid. Okay, I don't think Harry is the brightest spark in the plugbox, myself, but he's not stupid, nor is there any evidence that Lily was. Vernon Dursley, okay, he's limited and a bully -- but he's only half of the genetic input into Dudley. Nurture not nature won't work, either, because if simply living in the Dursley household makes you dumb, then Harry would have to be dumb.

Draco doesn't want himself to like Dudley, but he does end up liking him. And he just has to put up with the spark of intelligence in Dudley, *g*. Can't have everything: brawn and no brain!

My reading of Dudley is if you're going to slash him that means you're going to queer him, and if you're going to queer him that already sets him at odds with his family and especially with his homophobe of a dad who always goes on about 'pansies' (canon!). And remember when I posted canon evidence about Dudley's queerly interests? In OotP he literally talks to Harry about homosexuality. Canon, canon, canon!

Um, where was I? Oh yes, well, being a queer fish in that family would make you sensitive. It would make you react and reject all that. Plus Dudley was bullied and abused at his boarding school (not canon but he was, so there) and that had an impact. Also, he was adored by his mother and that mitigated the nastiness in his life.

And then he lost all his fat and fell in love with Draco and contracted a mortal disease and needed to have his life saved and went to beat up Harry and faced all sorts of demons and ... and...

Well, I've just got to write this bugger of an opus now.

y'know..i'm not that certain about lily either :-) frankly...brains may not necessarily be the entire potter family's strong suit :D

seriously, for me to even consider liking dudley in any way, shape, or form, he'd have to change an awful lot...but that's the beauty of fanfic, isn't it???

No, you're right, Harry is not Einstein. In fact, nobody in the books is Einstein with the exception of Hermione and, as somebody else pointed out, Snape. JKR is not really about intelligence prevailing; it's all about a) luck, b) destiny, c) courage. *kicks JKR*

Well, you do not have to like Dudley. It is enough that Draco likes Dudley. *gg* But I'll not stop trying to convince you! If I can get people to like Kiran, I must be able to get people to like Dudley!

Hooray for the canon!underdogs!

i think i like the focus on fannish characters who are smart...smart is good as far as i'm concerned :-) i firmly believe that was one of the big appeals of Sentinel for many :-)

you go with your canon underdogs... *g*

Half the time in fanfic, we have to clever our boys up. No, more like 4/5 of the time. The funniest person on the topic is Helenish who was always going on about the need to smarten up Nsync. "But can he do math?" I mean, in lotrips, the amount of innuendo and subtle allusion and smart backchat and knowledge of art/opera/poetry that whirls around freely in fanfic... While the actors themselves are more, liek, duh.

well, yeah :-)

in a way it was the intelligence issue that started me thinking first about the queer female space issue when i came out of lurkdome and wrote this.

it seriously all started when i saw justin in an interview and thought...boy, would i kick him out of my bed :-) and then reading story after story where they were reading literature and stuff and i was totally attracted to him. so, yes!

that's why the fandoms where you have people in grad school (Sentinel) or with PhDs (CSI, Stargate1) are particularly nice...
