Babycakes made me write some H/D and suddenly it came out as written from a pov never before attempted and Dudley seen all from the outside and omg, I've fallen in love with Petunia Dursley.

Who are Petunia's relatives? Is it true that Harry has no living relatives? (Mirror of Erised??) And if so, does that mean he has no grandparents? And if so, does that mean that Petunia is an orphan, and when was she orphaned, before or after her sister's death?

I can't believe there are no relatives. Lily was Muggle-born; there must be dozens of them swarming round. Unless Lily was Jewish and perhaps her ancestors came from Poland and were all killed in concentration camps?? Is Evans either a paternal name of a UK marriage or the echo of what was once Evanovski or Elfenstein??

Poor, poor orphaned Petunia with nothing but a horrible sister-in-law and the memories of a nasty, bullying and favouritised magic sister. And was Petunia the older or the younger sister?

The name Petunia is wonderful, so evocative. There was a children's story in Germany when I was little, about Petunia the Duck.

Does Petunia have Lily's green eyes and red hair?

I also figured out why she married Vernon and why she betrayed Vernon.

Do you think she might harbour secret lustful thoughts of Mrs Figg???

Hm, a quick perusal of the HP Lexicon informs me that Petunia is blonde. But perhaps this is dyed??

God, I may actually have to read some of the bloody books here. At least, only the opening chapters and the last paragraphs: the Dursleys appear nowhere else.

Ack, or do they? (Note to [livejournal.com profile] lazlet: I started to read Order of the Phoenix, I really did! In the plane to Atlanta! But it was so bad; I couldn't continue! Perhaps in small increments.)

"Do you think she might harbour secret lustful thoughts of Mrs Figg???"

Oh dear god! *alternately laughs and retches*
Make her a closet bi or lesbian, fine, but if anyone can write femmeslash involving Mrs Figg that works, I will be deeply, deeply impressed.

If you have trouble reading HP, all I can suggest is read some other 'young people's fiction' first, picked at random from a library, and unless you struck very lucky indeed, after a few pages Rowling's prose will seem like Shakespeare and you will be dying to go back to it.

i have a houseful of juvenile fiction and ten years experience of reading it out aloud, heh -- you did not know i had two young sons?? and while i concede your point (yes, jkr is better than elmer the elephant ) i also know that there is a lot of wonderful children"s literature out there; and alas, these other high-quality books are as nought to me as they do not have fandoms of febulous boysex attached to them...! i will just have to get all my canon info from fanfic as heretofore; i read all the hp books except for the last one out aloud to t'sons and by the fourth one i was yawning with boredom; now i'm reading number one out aloud yet again to t'youngest son and find it turgid!! but alas, this is the fandom and i've got to lie in that bed but i'm trying very hard not to have to read canon!! And just stick with fanon!
