I like Val's fics because they can be so full of rollicking fun and energy. Some of her stories just roll me along in such an alive way, sparking with electricity. Others are more lyrical, but always really lovely and sexy. I like the way that angst is rare and friendly sex plentiful. I also like the way Val will sometimes just ditch plausibility and go for riproaring, unashamed and often hilariously funny sex.
Val's fics have inspired me to think about characters and plot beyond what I actually put in a story, and to experiment with an energetic, angry style. I really like the speed and motion and unity of tone you can get with such a style, and I have sometimes written out portions of a story in that energetic way before integrating them in a story that has a different all-over style. It's been really liberating! ('Communion' is where I first noticed it but it's there in a lot of Val's stories.)
And I don't need to say how much I love Val's and Brenda's co-operative achievements in the RSF (but that may require a separate posting, *g*). I swoon over the 'Twee Sluts'...
