i came, i saw, i sith
May. 22nd, 2005 10:39 pmFinally a kiddies' film that is actually rated for kiddies! Unlike Kingdom of Heaven, Troy, Alexander, need I go on?
I enjoyed it! It was about 100 times better than the Clone War thing which isn't hard as the Clones Wars thing was as interesting as one of those still-image faded-photo ads they show before the main movie, advertising a local Indian restaurant. No, I revise that: the Clone thingy was much more boring.
But this Sith one was fun! Whatsisname Darth Anakin was fun! I liked his cheesy I-am-wearing-evil-eyeliner look! I liked the Nosferatu guy with the furrowed face. I liked the inventiveness of the special effects planets and battle things. The boring dialogues were shorter in length but the acting was as deliciously wooden as ever. Although I have to say that actor-who-plays-Palpatine did lapse into something resembling actual acting at a few points which was disturbing. I liked Ewan's beard!
Oh, and the modernist decor and design was just fab. I can't remember the other films having such love lavished on the 1970s hotel-lobby-mode design. That relief behind Darth Palpatine when he was giving Darth Anakin his I-am-a-darth spiel! The clean-line sofas and the black giant Ming vases! The modernist crispy cleanness of it all, half Star Trek and half Le Corbusier.
What I also really liked were the ways in which the new was melding with the old. The old being the original 1977 Star Wars wot i remember very well. Queen Natalie's Princessl-Leia raisin-Danish hairdo! Storm troopers in camouflage green! Nazi soldiers in little caps and gaunt cheekbones! Darth Vaderpoo! And actor-whose-name-I-forgot but who I believe is the only one to act in all six movies, the Palpatine guy.
Cool moments: General Grievous dying with fire spurting out of his eyes. Darth Anakin dying (or not) with his legs burnt off. Shlocky moments of Darth A's Evil Eyes. Queen Natalie's breasts in her pregnancy pale-blue lingerie outfit. (Pert, or what?) Spaceships flying in orderly 50-mile-speed-limit queues across the skies of various cities. Master Ewan: "I loved you!" The flying frog.
