techie question: gmail

Here's a dumb question: How do I get a gmail account? Is it not the case that a person who has a gmail account needs to invite me? Now, my son has a gmail account but has no clue how to invite me, and cruising around on the gmail help page, I couldn't find any hint on how to do it.

Does anybody know what t'son should do???

When son opens inbox, should be a blue box down at the middle right side of the page saying invite a friend. All he has to is type email address into the box and gmail will walk through the process. He should have at least 50 invites. If he doesn't have any. Respond to me and I can send one off to you.
