Dear sweet Listfriends

So where are all the recs? I've been reduced to digging around in backlists from the year 2000! What have I missed in my switchover from one Mac to another, rec-wise?

I really would like to read some good fic, any fandom (but SGA and HP always welcome), any pairing (but anything with Draco in is always welcome, and I do like Zelenka, but Rodney/John fics tend to be the best in terms of sizzle these days), any length! Just something that you liked!

Thank you! All that trouble, to link! I see astolat's name, I've probably read hers but I don't recognise the others. I find it so funny that you have immersed yourself in SGA. I finally gathered some actual canon knowledge! But: canon is so bad!!! But I saw Rodney McKay's nipple! (I can see how slashers grasp at anything. But I kept thinking, when are they going to hug??)

It is bad, but I also find it quite funny and entertaining. It's extremely silly but it seems to have its tongue in its cheek quite a lot of the time. There's only one thing I really have trouble ignoring, and that's the face that everyone in the Pegasus Galaxy speaks English! IT'S STUPID!

And of course they couldn't hug - Rodney blew up a solar system and destroyed John's trust in him!!!!!11seventy-eight

Yes, March! Sounds good! First week is best. Tuesday or Friday??

Damn, I've just read more of those SGA fics you recced and I don't know why it is but SGA brings out the absolute best in slash, it is breathtaking. I then read some of what those authors had written in other fandoms and while good, it wasn't of this stellar SGA quality.

Keep reccing!!

Sorry, I thought we were talking about February. We are talking about March? Bizarrely, the 3rd and the tenth are also Fridays in March.

Confusing, isn't it? But yes, March. So, yes. 3rd or the tenth of March? London would be fun. We could go somewhere and do something!

London?

Coffee? A show? A film? A play?

Well, coffee certainly sounds like a good start!

I'd love to go to London, but I'm just a tad bit worried about the amount of money I've been spending on train tickets lately. Would it be very boring of me to come to Cambrige instead? It's just, arrg, a ticket to London costs over twice as much, which is stupid and annoying.

What do you think? Is there anything you'd particularly like to see or do?

Or I could just say sod it and go to London anyway. Oh dear - am all indecisive! :(

Oh, I'd be happy for you to come to Cambridge! I just didn't think you'd want to, it's so boring here. I can even come to Ipsypoo but that may also be boring...? Or hey, we could go to Saffron Walden and really branch out!

Actually, I've never been to Saffron Walden. I hear the bookshops are good. It's worth a thought!!

Oh now, you see, Cambridge isn't boring to me because I don't live there. Ipswich is, I fear, boring whether you live here or not.

And I've never been to Saffron Walden either! Maybe we should do Saffron Walden. We could go on a little tour!

Let's keep all this in mind. You could come to Cambridge and we could go motoring to Saffron Walden. What fic could one possibly set here? There needs to be a fen fandom. The proverbial fendom!! *dies of punnage* Puddleglum lives here, of course.

I think this sounds like a fabulous idea. FENS! :) Actually I think you ought to be able to set any fic in the fens, with a bit of tinkering.

Too right.

I'd already made Hermione do her Ph.D. at Cambridge so that I could lure Draco there, with whatever flimsy narrative excuse. He'll confuse all the dons with wizards!! Because of the robes!!! Actually, this sounds more like crackfic and could be a secondary subfic. Hah! I'm having a BUNNY, omg, haven't had one of those since 2003. Sort of like having kittens. And then he could see the provost of Senate House with his sceptre and think it's a wand!!

[livejournal.com profile] mirabile_dictu has been writing stargate -- too close to canon for me to really get but I'm sure anyone who's closer will enjoy them.

You have a touching belief in my canon knowledge. I have NO idea of SGA canon. I am very familiar with fanon, however. I just saw my very first ep of SGA evah, made possible by new ibook tech knowhow, hah! But that is the be-all and end-all. :-) Thank you for rec!

did you read ces's Last Will and Testament? Also great was Martha's Moca...I'm not sure how far back you haven't read, but one of the best fics to come out of the xmas exchanges was Lamardeuse's Road to Nevada...oh and the most cracktastic chalenge to bad plot summary response that's actually good is here.

Other than that, the most recent documentation challenge has created some wonderful fic and my overall recs remain here.

Oh, Christmas recs! I'd completely forgotten about all the Christmas recs! I will scroll back to December but hm, who was doing the best reccing and what were the sites called? Did you post a link at some point? Vague memories stir... It's funny, sometimes there are thousands of recs and life is too busy to read them all, and then suddenly, you are in dire need of fic and have forgotten all the links!

I loved Last Will and Testament! I adored it! And Martha's Moca is hotdamn hot. I loved it, too. The link to Road to Nevada is broken. :-(

You give good rec, Babe! Any more????

you may like pru's latest, but i didn't (adored hindsight but not this one)

other than that, wonderful smaller stuff on the documentation challenge at sga_flashfic and i loved this short john piece: http://synecdochic.livejournal.com/58611.html

Oh yes, I do have that on my hard disk!! I downloaded it when you last recced it, and had forgotten,*g*. It's very long so is it worth me printing it out? I mean, is there payoff: do they have sex? The Road to Nevada, that is.

No, I had forgotten you don't care for the sex. *boggles*

But if you like the fic and it had what is for you a mere side effect (the sex), that's good enough for me!

I just made two rec posts (something I normally NEVER do) and they are all Battlestar Galactica crack!fics. I really couldn't say which one I like best, but The Princess Bride ripoff with Lee Adama as Princess Buttercup is extremely hilarious.

Hmm. The long one- the three-parter is probably the best one to read if you don't know any of the canon. Which leads me to: why don't you know BSG canon, woman? It's one of the best shows on TV right now!!!
