I must just rec this trilogy of beauty. It consists of three stories, each written by a different, outstanding author. I printed them all out in one document and read them as one. This is the order they go in:

[livejournal.com profile] resonant8, Resolution

[livejournal.com profile] cesperanza Clarity

[livejournal.com profile] astolat (Shalott), Composition

This is a gorgeous trilogy, and it is so sexy it made me lie in bed unable to sleep! I was feeling hot inside and out.

One of the first paragraphs of Resonant's opener:
Rodney doubts the Ancients anticipated their surveillance equipment being put to quite this use. On the other hand, there was already a camera in Sheppard's quarters when they got here, so it's possible he's underestimating the kinkiness of the Ancients.

You can imagine where this is going, and it gets there beautifully, with surprising twists and kinks, and enough breathlessness and deliciousness to make me squee inwardly.

It is also phenomenally interesting to read from the writing point of view because it juxtaposes three different writers' styles with rare clarity. Speranza and Shalott pick up Resonant's characterisation and prose mood beautifully but each fic is stamped with its author's individuality. I would really be interested to read a DVD commentary on this one!

It's a funny thing: as each fic ended, I was going 'no, no' inside, anxious about where a new writer would take this. I loved it so much I didn't want it messed with. But each time I was convinced of the new narrative voice within a few sentences (in Shalott's case, within a few words).

I will re-read this and post a longer analysis, if time permits.

Ooh! How did I miss these??? *gathers them to bosom*

Have you read Speranza's Last Will and Testament? Really great, fun, clever AU, with added hot incest! ;) Goodness me, I feel bad reccing when I've given feedback for virtually nothing lately - I'm planning to do a sort of mass feedback-drop from a helicopter at some point. I've also started collecting recs here, if you're interested. Not much there yet - it's mainly stuff I've read recently, but I intend to go back and add older stuff later, if I can find it. Plus notes about why I liked stuff. I've always wanted to do a proper recs page but never got round to it - this seems like a lovely easy way to do it.

Oh, and also, also - Friday is definitely on! I'll check train times and get back to you - when would you like me to turn up?

And now I will stop writing this comment.

You know, I recced (also wracked, with guilt, that is) and then I copied the rec post and sent it to each author in lieu of feedback! I felt awful about it but I thought better this than no feedback. I read Last Will and Testament and thought it was fanbloodytastic (I think I read it because you recced it); she has a particular taut style that is brilliant. It languishes in no-feedback-given guilt land.

Friday! Come around 12, would that be good? We can have lunch and then walk about town.

Trains get in at 11.39 or 12.39. Which would be best for you? The plan sounds good!

Let's make it 11.39! I'll start lunch once you're here. I will make lentil soup. Do you eat bacon?

Yes, and it's so easy! I've always been put off making a recs page for my website because it just seemed like a lot of work, but this is just a case of clicking a button and it's archived! I shall have to link the page to my site at some point.

You'll have to show me this 'click a button and it's archived' thing tomorrow. Don't you still have to type in the url?

When you've got an account you can download a clicky 'post to del.icio.us' button to put on your toolbar, and then when you're on a page you want to archive you can just click the button and it takes you to a page where you can add notes, tags etc, and then you click again to confirm and you're taken straight back to the original page, as though you'd never been away! It's a bit like Narnia.
