weather: 'tis colder up north
Mar. 13th, 2006 10:15 amI was in Manchester over the weekend. Yesterday, the air was very cold. My nose felt coldest, and my teeth when I opened my mouth. To warm my teeth up, I slid the inside of my lips over them.
Snow came down in showers. Sometimes it turned into rain which then felt like tiny pins against the skin of my face. The snow collected in thin drifts in gutters and along runnels but the footpath and street remained gleaming wet. The sky was a white colour, featureless. No shadows to be seen.
Today, back in t'south, it is milder. There is a contrast between the light grey sky and the bright hard roofs and walls of the houses opposite onto which the sun is shining. The branchwork of trees is outlined against this grey background as well. It hurts my eyes a little bit but that may be because I caught a cold in the cold north.
