drained

I am drained. Computer troubles are stressful and totally draining. They are also unhealthy. My right shoulder hurts, my back is stiff, I am having scroll-click RSI.

I spent three (THREE) hours on the phone today to various geekdrones at the Applecare Callcentre. They were helpful, although not phenomenally so.

Yesterday, the kind and generous [livejournal.com profile] birdgerhl managed to restore my documents, movies and pictures via the phone. Today, the geekdrones (because yes, geeks rule but surely working in a call centre is more the bottom of the rung, at the other end of the spectrum of say, interfacing with Alien technology in another galaxy) managed to retrieve my bookmarks, my widgets, my calendar appointments, my stickies (with my help, I have to say; geekdrone: 'Ooh, they shouldn't be there'; me thinking: 'Who cares if they shouldn't be there? They are there!'). I had to re-install my printer, what a pain. I lost my keyboard shortcuts.

And I haven't got Brad back! *weeps*

I find it unsettling to open my computer and find a pale blue desktop without any Brad Pitt! Where is my khaki green desktop colour, colour-coordinated with Brad's khaki shirt?? I rang the Apple Centre yet again and they made me reboot and safe-reboot and open a test user account and aaaack. And still no bloody Brad!!!

I go to the Desktop&Screensaver preference window, I click on all the requisite things and nothing happens.

Callcentre drone: 'Ooh, that shouldn't be happening.'

I am too exhausted for this. I did manage to get up and first thing write three hours on my book. I only rang the Apple people after lunch. Go me for admirable restraint and discipline! Although it may also be freaked-outness by ibook. What was a cathected site of major proportions has become a horror nightmare object of hate!!

Well, I exaggerate. I must go to watch another SGA episode to calm myself down. Of course, all of this meant: no conference paper written, no SGA Cadman fic finished, no feedback sent, no online fun had.

*headbangs*

Thanks to everyone else who chipped in with suggestions! :-) Rodney, where are you when I need you?

Oh, that's right: between Zelenka's legs.

yay! i'm glad you got all your bits'n'bobs back! the boy was convinced they'd been overwritten, but obviously they'd just ended up somewhere strange.

b.x :D

I must say my heart sank when you told me 'overwritten', and it had the ring of plausibility. But you got back all my documents and music and movies for me so I thought, the other stuff has got to be somewhere, too!

I must say, though, I am so annoyed with Apple. There is an apple feedback page and I'm going to write them a whopper. Thanks so much again for all your kind help! It was also good psychologically because on Sunday I was quite raw! I had to calm myself down by watching SGA and making a potato salad. Peeling spuds was suitably mindless and completely unconnected with anything electronic.
