I am so flattered and delighted! [livejournal.com profile] remainunashamed has written a crack!SGA sex ficlet for me and it is fantastic!

It is called A Dickless Joe: The Missing Almost-Sex Scene,

and it is the sequel to
A Dickless Joe.

An excerpt:"Until I get my prostate back, you're not going anywhere near my asshole."

Question:
What is a remix?

I have been in fandom for four years and should probably know this but I've managed to keep away from RPGs, too; some aspects just elude me. But now my curiosity is piqued and I would be interested to know what it is and how it works. Does it involve the re-writing of someone else's fic? So is it a bit like what I did with my writing exercises, where I re-wrote my own scene several times over in different styles, povs and so forth?

Is it fun to do a remix? Do you learn something about writing? Is it difficult? Does one have to be remixed oneself to join in the remixing, and what is that like?

it's hard. it's much harder than you think it will be. the remix i signed up for, you had to do a remix too (of a fic by someone other than the peep whose fic you yourself were remixing...). i found that quite disappointing, 'cos i'd laboured for bloody hours over my own remix (as is my wont...) and received something that i felt had just been dashed off in ten minutes in return. :/

really, don't underestimate how difficult it is (depending on how restrictive the terms of the remix are). i got a good writer to remix, which i actually think makes it even harder.

b.x :)

The labouring over someone else's work and then getting a dashed-off thingy in return is very disappointing. That would really turn me off. But the discipline and the freedom to think just about style because plot is already taken care off intrigue me.

Yes, that's exactly what it is. I've written a bit on remixes a while back and, i think, isis has a couple of fascinating posts on her own writing process...

they're usually organized where you get another writer in one of your fandoms, get to pick a story (the writer often gets one "safe" not to be mixed claim) and you can switch characters, styles, points of view, etc.

All too often, the stories become simple retellings from the other pov, which I usually find horribly boring as a reader (esp. if there's a lot of dialog which simply gets repeated).

I've heard of writers getting upset because their pair got altered or such...

The latest multifannish remix just ended and there are tons of stories where you can see both. check musesfool's lj for the site link.

ETA: http://cathexys.livejournal.com/194448.html my thoughts on remixes that also link to isis's post...btw, her remix fisticuffs is one of the ones that really work for me...as is an older popslash das Maerchen... on the whole, i think it often does resemble exercises more than anything, at least tome as a reader...

This was fun. I started with your link and then clicked and clicked and clicked my way through all the way to a great remix fic by Isis! Thank you for sending me on that Ariadnean journey!

glad you enjoyed your journey!

I did, thank you! It's funny how we think of internetting as 'travelling' and in spatial terms but we do.
