Thank you, all you kind people who commented re back pain. I won't comment on each of your comments now because we are leaving for the airport in two hours and I must focus on staying relaxed. I will 'see' you all on Monday when I'm back and I hope very much that I'll be better then. My sister is fixing up an appointment for me in Germany; in Germany, they are less fearful than here and wham you with a cortisone injection or something so I'm hoping they will fix the pain by brutal methods.

Thank you also for reading, especially the writing experiments! I do hope more people will join in. And I will do more when I get back! I've thought of lots of prose styles and writing strictures to explore. It's very liberating, not going by plot bunny or pairing or swoon factor but by point-of-view, tense, register and so forth.

Okay, I'd better go! :-)

Have a nice, non-painful time! See you when you get back, by which time I hope to have developed some time-management skills and maybe even have some feedback and writing exercise ideas for you. :)

Oh! that's good to know! I'm glad that you'll be able to get medical help in Germany. But I do suggest lying down as much as possible and buying an electric heating pad.

Good luck! I hope you feel better!

Thanks so much for all your kind comments and suggestions. They were phenomenally helpful. I got the walking stick, for example, and it was invaluable; I'm not sure I would have thought of that one myself. It was also really heartening to read that one can be to hell and back and yet end up weeding in the garden. For some days there, I didn't dare think further into the future than the next few minutes; the thought was too scary and sad-making. It was interesting that you could lie down; that was just the thing I couldn't do so on the first few days I got really exhausted walking up and down in the house for hours. Thanks again so much! :-)

I wasn't lying down, exactly. I was in a recliner chair with my feet up and a pillow at the small of my back. I was not lying down flat. This is actually the best way to sleep, which is why adjustable beds have gotten a lot more popular.

I wasn't just weeding the garden, I was using a heavy chopper hoe to hack the roots of bushes so that I could clear the garden out so that I can plant vegetables. I then had to dig/hack/pull all of the leftover roots out of the ground. Yes, a year ago, I would have thought that I could never do this again, but my back seems fine now.

My backyard corner garden.

The roots I pulled out of the soil in the corner.

I used to have a weight lifting coach who had a cracked vertebrae, but her back muscles were so strong that she was able to lift 250 pounds over her head.

I'm glad you're feeling better and I hope your back makes a full recovery.
