What is MRE?
Apr. 24th, 2006 02:29 pmMRE occurs in many SGA fics. So I googled it today. It means 'Meal, Ready to Eat' and is part of military rations. In Germany, it is called EPA (Einmannpack) and in the UK it is called GP (general purpose). And here is a site with pictures of what it contains and a person's personal taste sampling (!!!):

I do not have a life, that much is clear. Although, I must add, neither does Person Who Sampled MREs from Different Countries (see aforecited website).
Anyway, apparently Rodney McKay loves this food (and, to judge by website craziness, he's not the only one). Also, I now remember that I bought two packs of GPs for t'son's eleventh birthday party and the kids had to assemble their own meals in the great outdoors -- a task at which they failed hopelessly, although not quite as hopelessly as their elders who couldn't even get the barbecue started. As a result, we imbibed only cake and gluggy tea drinks concocted from the GPs. It was a fantastic party.
