I am starting to feel World Cup fever coming on. Kick-off is on 8 June, as I discovered from the itv Official World Cup Guide wot i bought myself at W.H. Smith today. I also acquired a Brazil top and shorts for t'youngest to wear, in the confidence that he'll wear it at least to the finals. Yes, yes, everybody, I am backing Brazil as favourites, and no, I am not supporting Germany although I am German. Alas and sadly, my absolute favourite team in the world, the glorious, the unforgettable Cameroon (see icon of the glorious and unforgettable Roger Milla in his unforgettable glory at the 1990 World Cup) did not qualify this time. *sobs hysterically for 1/2 a second then stops abruptly*

Football! Soccer! [livejournal.com profile] badgermonkey, hello!!! Haha, I got there first: I have made (my first?) World Cup icon, in super-duper-readiness.

So I don't know whom I'll support. I guess I'll do what I do every four years (well, every two, actually, counting the European Cup): settle down into the first five minutes of each match and decide there and then. Although I do like to go for underdogs so throughout the qualifiers I will be backing Africans and Asians, and thereafter we shall see: I shall go for the ones with the most charm and élan and elegance of play and sexiness of player and panache in goalkeeping and ability to provide maximum drama for the sofa potato set. Which rules out Germany, I guess, hoho.

And the slashiness, the slashiness. And omg, I almost forgot: Alan Hansen!!! Gary L.!!!!

*drools foulishly*

Which rules out Germany like so! German footie is about beer, crude songs barked in the stadium and horribly accented English. Which... *steps away from it* Ick.

I have to say that English football is also about just this: beer, crude songs, and horrible accents. *g* They invented hooliganism, after all.

That's why I love you, Roger!!!

I saw a book by Alan Hansen in the charity shop t'other day! I nearly bought it but really £1.50 is a bit steep just for a joke. But I might have to make some more icons.

Each form in our house at school has been 'given' a team. My form's is the USA. I could never support the USA; for one they are not particularly good. Also I am glad it is a sport they have not managed to be champions at just through having a monopoly (cf baseball, American Football) and they call it soccer. And they think it a sport for children and girls.

Despite all my love of the underdog, I cannot bring myself to support the USA. It is just too ludicrous. I am sort of feeling sympathetic towards Australia this year but only because Cameroon didn't qualify. *sobs briefly before being overcome by pre-cum excitement*

In Australia, they call it soccer.

At least the times will all be co-ordinated this year! No strange having to take the children to school for breakfast. I am so miffed with t'brother-in-law for having got only himself tickets and none for my sister and me. Grmph. But that's him all over. Unreconstructed macho. *vents*

I have a World Cup guide! I have never been so prepared!
