Or: are we all schoolgirls in the schoolyard?

I've only been a member of the football comm for a week and a bit and already there's been a kerfuffle! Mods are involved, threads multiply in that staggered formatting they have, posts have been deleted, I have made contrite apologial comments and suddenly, the virginal world of football has lost its innocence (in my clueless eyes) and become, ack, a full-fledged fandom! Or to be more accurate: suddenly I woke up and it was all a fandom.

I'm with you. My usual fandom is the rps side of the Lord of the Rings world, and the corner I found is NOT scary and filled with happy glee. Tripping merrily into the football fandom, I was not prepared for wanking and possible angsting and all that follows within. I wasn't expecting that, either.

*hides with you in slightly scared land*

Ah, did you also trip into football land as a so-called newbie? I, of course, took everyone I met there for oldbies. And I have already told you that I adore your icon, right? And made a very similar one immediately after I saw yours in abject homage?

You're a lotripper, or former lotripper?? Do I know you under another name perhaps??

Oh, rps, how are you so very, very awesome...

It's been so long that I've made copious use of the expression 'the pretty' (or, even better, 'teh pretty'). Fps is full of non-pretties. They may be geeky gods and hawt et cetera but they are not 'The Pretty'.

OK, I am embarrassed now. I realise, comparing our two icons, that I did not exactly make a similar icon in homage but made the exact same icon, evidently using the exact same bloody source material.

Um. Not sure what the etiquette here is. Er... after you?

Exactly what [livejournal.com profile] blankversesfic said. To the letter.
I feel like such an outsider because I'm a "newbie."

Oh well. I shall sit in a corner and weep like Ronnie.

Ronnie! You call him Ronnie! Is that some sort of oldbie thing that everyone else knows but I don't? Except that I know it is an aka and also that it is pronounced Honnie, at least in Brazilian Portuguese.

*is canon geek*

I was so blissfully clueless that I didn't even realise I was a newbie until that rules post!

Honnie. Eeee! I love it! I just read a fic where he was a prostitute (with a heart of gold) and his name was Ronnie. I'm not sure why he's called that (other than the obvious Ronaldo --> Ronnie).

I shorten everyone's names, actually. It makes organizing my pics and icons easier. Robinho is now Robin. Kaka is still Kaka. Ronaldinho is Dinho. ♥

I know I'm a newbie. It's a good thing that I normally stay on the fringes or else I'd be weeping in my shin guards. There's a new community that is members only and asks how long you've been a fan. Why does it matter? If I've been a fan for two days, I should still get treated the same way.

Is your story finished yet? *desperately needs slashy fics*

Someone pointed me to the fandom wank about the footballslash kerfuffle; I'd never read a fandomwank before but this one was kind of fun to read. It made me feel less awful about feeling awful.

asks how long you've been a fan
This is so unbelievably stupid!! Of course, it doesn't matter if you've been a fan for two or for two hundred days! It's level of enthusiasm that counts!!

Dinho! How cute is that!

I think I told you about progress about my fic in another comment... Am trying my best! It needs to be finished by the time of the Portugal game!!

Hee. I've been saying it for years. People roll their eyes at media fandom because of the "nerds in Spock ears" association, but any group of people gathered together to share their love of anything is a fandom. And people are always people...so you get the flamewars and the wanking and the in-crowd and all the rest of it.

My sympathy for your fright, though.

You have? You've been saying it for years? Oh dear, fandom, eh.

I suppose I just kid myself that when I stroll into something new and unknown that somehow it is virginal and totally different from anything encountered before.

They weren't directly picking on me (this time, not like when I was metafandommed, help); it was more generic and I took the rebuke to heart, as I always do. :-) I made a mean comment about Italy whom I hate since their unfair horrible gut-stomping Australia win but 'twas the wrong forum to make the comment in. So I deleted it.

Ithliana now tells me that that whole comm and its kerfuffle has been fandomwanked! How did I get myself stranded in the midst of such a thing??? And here I thought it was all about the pretty but now I am reliably informed by someone on fandom wank (I forget her name) that fics with interchangeable characters that are 'merely' about the pretty are bad in any fandom. *wails*

*runs back to interchangeable but incredibly pretty characters*

*who are, however and on second thoughts, not interchangeable because they are Kaká and Cristiano Ronaldo; they are my darling sons!!*

*goes mad*

Have been reading your posts about football because I like your writing (sports of any kind bore me to tears, the more so that I have to put up living in Texas where the three religions are fundamentalist, bidness, and american football).....and laughed when I saw this:

If it's made fandom wank, it's a fandom!.

From: [identity profile] lobelia321.livejournal.com
Wow! I just read through some of this, it was even fun! I joined in! Wow, I've never read a fandom wank, only heard about them -- you lured me into reading my first evah wank!

Hah.

Oh dear...

btw, I keep meaning to say, I have booked both the 10th and 11th July off work - what's your preference, Monday or Tuesday?

11th. I have a parents' evening on the Monday and would have to return early.

Also, I will be in the blank hole of post-world cup blankness. I will need stimulation! Possibly, I may be sick with despondency. Especially if the wrong team won.

I did write a two-line John Sheppard/Mrs Sheppard his mum ficlet for [livejournal.com profile] helenish yesterday so my SGAishness can't be completely dried up.
