france 1, brazil go home
Jul. 1st, 2006 09:14 pmWell, I am not going to get my dream semi-final. Who would have thought it? France have come back from obscuritydom and taken the world by storm, as if the year 1998 had only just passed.
I am sad to see Brazil go but France did play beautifully. I can't feel sorry that they are going through. The French are not as pretty as the Brazilians but their football was more beautiful even than my boys. Zidane, Henry and Ribery are football gods.
So it's all Europe from here on in and my babies (Portugal) are going to have to play France on Wednesday. I fear they will lose.
But after the draining Portugal/England game I just did not have the energy to get into a state all over again about Brazil. I'm happy for France.

Football is cruel:

Bonus Portugal/England pics:
Rooney getting excited by Carvalho's balls:

The man who t'h thinks is 'sex on a stick':

Myson sweetie is well fit:

I like Crouch (and so does C. Ronaldo: it's tough love):

Legs:

I do believe there were some other Portuguese players on the pitch but hell, I always seem to link to pics of the same old guy:

C. Ronaldo is not the only who weeps; here is David Beckham doing same:

Certain people call this boy a 'fucking diver'. If he is a diver (which I dispute!), he is at the least a very pretty fucking diver. And may I add, a very pretty Kaká-fucking diver.

I am distressed that
badgermonkey, my World Cup txt mate of 2002, cannot be happy with me. But thus is the cruelty of the luck of the draw, that is, who gets to play against whom. So it was England wot Portugal beat and not another team. Thus is my Flist riven!!
But Demelza!!! You must be now for both Germany and France! :-)
None of my football icons seems apt. Weepfest!Ronaldo is not appropriate at the moment because he is ecstatically happy. Happy!Kaká is not appropriate because he is dejectedly upset. So let's go with Roger Milla because he is always fine.
And tomorrow, what with no matches to watch, I will finish typing up my C. Ronaldo/Kaká fic!! (It's worse than Viggorli, isn't it, Demelza?)

Date: 2006-07-02 09:12 am (UTC)Kaká is only a silly nickname in some languages. T'son, for example, whose command of German is shaky, thinks that Kaká's name is 'cool'. *gg*

Date: 2006-07-02 10:02 pm (UTC)And I know Kaka is not funny in every language but man, it just doesn't get old for me. Kaka! And he's so pretty! The paradox adds to the funny, lol.

Date: 2006-07-02 12:07 pm (UTC)T'h is totally smitten with Cristiano Ronaldo. He started gushing on about him this morning at breakfast with no prompting from me at all. "Did you see how he looked at the French guy and made a kiss a thim?" *t'h imitating kiss* "He is so naughty!" (I didn't even see that kiss! And I would! Possibly this kiss resides only in t'h's feverish imagination!)
You stayed up to watch! Whee! Good on you! And wait for Tuesday: we (as in 'we Germans') will cream those horrible Italians wot deprived you of a place in the quarter-finals. We will CREAM them. *gets out handwhisk to help the process along*
i woke exhausted as from a night spent between cristiano and kaka.
I wish you very much that this sentence will one day become true for you, with the words 'as from' deleted. ;-)

Date: 2006-07-02 07:59 am (UTC)T'bf is distraught because he got Brazil in the sweepstake so they have lost him £100!
PS. did you see that Portuguese player clasp John Terry's face in both hands and seriously seriously look like he was going in for a snog at the end of the match? I must find a cap of it.

I,too, did wonder why Rooney shoved Cristiano (can't write/say Ronaldo because then I always have to think of the Brasilian Ronaldo). And Rio Ferdinand shoved him, too, and he's also a club mate. What? Was it 'Shove Cristiano Ronaldo'-day or what? Did he say something? Before the game Cristiano and Rooney were chatting wuite animatedly so it can't be that they just don't get along...

Date: 2006-07-02 11:30 am (UTC)Cristiano - god, he is just so pretty. The legs... *swoon* About his fitness, though. Obviously his leg hurt again in the second half. But I'm sure till Wednesday everything's going to be fine again... I'm *sure* :)

My brain still cannot compute that I will not be seeing the Brazilians again. *jiggles brain*

Date: 2006-07-02 03:22 pm (UTC)Know exactly what you mean. I did notice that they didn't play well of course, but still I somehow never really thought of the possibility of them not making it into the final...
Yes, France is strong. And Portugal is....getting better. So, I'll just keep hoping and praying and wanting them to win. :)
