stuck on book
Jul. 14th, 2006 11:34 amI have become totally stuck on my book. I have used the welcome excuse of the World Cup and, during the last four days, the withdrawal and incessant LJ-refreshing and pic trawling, to neglect my book. Today, I admitted to myself that I am effing bored with the chapter I am writing; it has gone on interminably; it has tortured itself through several versions -- why is it taking FOR BLOODY EVER to finish?
So today I got really annoyed and used the energy of being annoyed and bored to drive myself on. I must finish this stupid thing by tonight. Tomorrow we go to Brighton for the weekend, and I want to finish the damn chapter in time.
I want to start on the next chapter afresh on Monday. *kicks chapter*
Jane Smiley says: Just keep accumulating words. But god, that can be a dry, unsatisfying business. My brain has shrivelled. There are no new ideas in there at the moment.
Today, I'd rather be doing anything besides finishing that wretched chapter. Type up fic, drool over pics, write comments, read Nancy Mitford (who is a tad frivolous but moreish, like liquorice, and leaves the same too-gooye taste -- reminds me of Dodie whatsername, Capture the Castle-woman --Dodie Smith), scrub the bloody oven -- anything!
Ah well. I do have to go shopping and buy t'12 some trainers. And pack for tomorrow.
*falls off swivel chair in boredom with own prose*

Date: 2006-07-14 01:16 pm (UTC)Oh, oh...
Date: 2006-07-14 04:39 pm (UTC)The oven? Oh, that's a really bad sign. If I want to rather clean than work on something work related ... the last straw. But there's no helping it - you'fe just gotta pull through.
Hopefully for you positive thoughts (like Cristiano only being able to frolick on the beach when you get it done in time) work for you. For me they don't. I'm unfortunately completly unable to pressure myself into working with any kind of discipline. I need someone outside (like a professor or something) and/or a deadline to get things done. *sighs*
But maybe it'll help to talk about it. You know, to straigthen out your thoughts, test ideas and so on. I guess, this time it's a bit late but I'd be totally willing to give it my best shot. :)
*hopes with all her heart that you met your deadline*

Date: 2006-07-26 02:25 pm (UTC)Sure, sure. I did offer after all. I can't promise that I'll be of any help this it's not really my field of expertise but I will give it my best. :) The only thing is - academic-only flist? Do I have to sign up for that or what? *please excuse me and my sweat soaked brain*

Date: 2006-07-26 10:32 pm (UTC)No, no , goodness. It'll just be one of my customised friends lists to which I will add you. I have many, many customised lists (it makes life confusing sometimes); mostly for reading purposes but now and again I will do a post flocked to one particular list.
You never do that?
