I just wrote that I was using the football obsession to escape the horror of my chapter. This is true but the football obsession is also so intrinsically alluring. I just made a quick scan of my Flist and it occurred to me yet again how much I love this crazy football fandom. I've only been in it for what? barely 4 weeks (at the beginning of the World Cup, if you remember, I hadn't discovered it yet and felt like a lone voice of obsession in the wilderness). But every time I look, there are just insane amounts of new posts and new comments (my intray explodes) and new picspams. Not many new fics -- it's a small pond -- but what there is, is appreciated all the more by the hungry. And there is shameless, trivial, happy drooling and it's just such a lot of fun.

And Madeira! It has Madeira in it! I've always loved me the exotic locations (I can go back to my original love: making boys love each other on a beach; that one is endlessly compelling for me, endlessly).

And it's the most international fandom I have ever been. It goes much more beyond the linguistic Anglophone boundaries than even lotrips. Suddenly I not only have people on my list who are non-Anglophone and live in non-Anglophone places but people who actually regularly post in non-English.

My sentiments exactly! Like the LOTR-fandom, the football fandom brought me so many new and wonderful friends. It's such fun indeed...and no one seems to be able to let go, LOL, seeing the endless amount of posts with WC-icons and picspams...

I totally agree with you, I lOVE this fandom. For all the reasons that you posted, for how giddy and fun everyone is. And for finding a place for my football-love that I couldn't find anywhere else. And true on the international fandom part -- My f-list had been almost entirely Anglophone (and almost entirely American, British, or Canadian) until this fandom. It's kind of awesome, and makes me want to go learn some more languages to know what everyone's posting!

It is indeed fascinating to meet so many people from so many places. Some old faces and many new.

there are just insane amounts of new posts and new comments OMFG. I've never had trouble getting through my flist before, now I'm just swamped. I really want to reply to one of your comments from yesterday, but it was 11PM by the time I got to it last night...

Yep. Love the drooling. But the small amount of fics... *sighs hungrily* ;)

Great! Do it! (After working on your book of course!)
