Sep. 9th, 2006 01:00 pmI just saw Stargate Atlantis, series 3, episode 'Common Ground'. It is enough to make me turn into a true-blue SGA fan. Possibly. Because omg: wraith. Except why do they introduce new wraith plot points that do not concur with my own wraithverse??
So what's the take on the wraith being able to give life as well as suck it away? This does not at all fit into my concept of wraith as I am writing it in my wraith fic. So what to do? Do I sit down and wreck my brain to account for this new canon revelation and twist my fic around to fit it? (Which would violate the basic premise of my fic so I am loath!) Or do I slap a 'written pre-series 3' phrase in the Header and leave it at that?
Canon in an ongoing fps is a very annoying thing.
But god, I love the wraith. And I love the wraith in Common Ground to whom, interestingly, John gives no name. But all the wraith/John interaction is so delicious; I kept thinking, so just get on with the fucking already! You're clearly totally hot for each other!! 'My brother' indeed. In my fic, of course, they don't say 'brother'; they say 'sibling'.
Bizarrely, I thought that here was another instance where canon writers had copied fanon. Except then I remembered that I haven't posted or even finished my wraith fic yet so I don't think it is even fanon. They plundered my brain via telepathy! I am partly annoyed that they 'stole' my idea before I could get around to posting and partly happy that they are fuelling my obsession. And wholly disconcerted by life-giving plot twist.
Also annoyed that readers will now think I copied my idea from canon wot i didn't. Ah well. The lesson to be learned: post fast. Do not thine fic let go on for too many months. *coughs re HP fic which has gone on for 2 1/2 years now...*
Also, what's with the new fashion? Here I was drawing scientific diagrams on tac vests and drooling over John's propensity to go out into battle wearing nothing but trainers and no socks (as per icon) only to find that apparently these days he likes to don a trendy leather jacket and zip-up top and wear calf-high bovver boots! Well, I can't be having with that. When canon gets too much in the way, one must simply discard it. *shakes head* Though there's no denying that the leather jacket creaks in a most sexy fashion.
I am actually coming round to John Sheppard. Who'd have thought it?
