Did I forget to mention that t'h brought home last night, after our do, a signed black-and-white photograph of Amitabh Bachchan? It says 'T'h & Lobelia love Amitabh Bachchan, Sept. CB 18, 2006'. Of course, it says our real names, not t'h or Lobelia, *g*.

Off topic - response re Vikram Seth! I didn't mean a slashy pair - but the Calcutta lot were left without partners and I could continue their stories in my head!
The book shot straight into my top five - probably even outclassed LoTR. I just got it back from a friend who borrowed it and didn't even read it ! I want to cuddle it and tell it it's home.
I think everybody ought to read it ...I hope my rec was strong enough!

The Calcutta lot... *tries to remember* It's a while since my last re-reading. Do you mean the poet? And his boarding school brother? Or...?

And Maan/Firoz. *has death experience* I love love love that book; my copy is completely dog-eared. Plus it's signed by Vikram Seth who came for a reading at my local bookstore! I was in love. He is totally gay. For me, the passionate heart of the story beats within Maan/Firoz -- but then I am so inveterately a slasher. Oh, and the shoemaker! I love the shoemaker!! And the chapter where Ma writes the birthday card...! And 'Lady Baby'!!

Yes, but I'm not very knowledgable. I did a postgrad thesis on modern Indian literature in English, though ...And one of my friends' daughters (very westernised Bangladeshi) assures me that Bride and Prejudice is wonderful - so honestly, I will buy/steal/borrow it one of these days!
