To my football Flist :-)
Dec. 17th, 2006 10:50 pmI realise that I had not made an important announcement! Heh. About a week ago I got my Arsenal Red Membership card!! (Woohey!) I had been promising t'younger son (who is a rampant Arsenal fan) to become a member for months and now I had finally got off my arse and done it.
Also, up until the end of the World Cup this year I had never, ever considered 'being for a club'. I was a total European Cup and World Cup gal. Inbetween these tournaments, the players just disappeared into clubland ether. But what with the slashiness and the spiralling out of control of teh obsession, I had to know what all those gorgeous bods were up to in the downtime, and discovered astounding things like the Emirates Stadium, Argentina vs Brazil friendlies, West Ham in my own town, Ryan O'Neil, Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho, Rooney/Ronaldo love, obscure clubs in Berlin, Osnabrueck and Kidderminster, and LOTS MORE!!
So I gave myself at least one semester to figure out what English football club I might be wanting to support. I thought of West Ham at first because I'd seen them live. Then Aston Villa appealed because of Martin The Wizard O'Neil. The sons badgered me to go for Arsenal and propagandised against Chelsea.
As soon as I held that Arsenal membership card in my hand, I realised that I could never support a club with all my heart that did not have Cristiano Ronaldo in it.
This narrowed down my choice considerably. *grins*
So, I guess, I'll have to consider myself a Man U gal from now on. Which is not a hard thing to be or do. Especially since my strangely discovered affection for Wayne Rooney... Plus, ah, don't they play beautifully??
This is not to say that I now abjure all other teams. I could never be a rabid supporter. I have a sheaf of favourites. Just as in the World Cup, I go for Cameroon, and then Australia, and then Portugal, and then Germany except when Germany play as beautifully as they have in which case I go for Germany before Portugal, and also France (Ribery!). And... and... When there are so many lovelies, who can choose not to support?
But in a face-off Man U/Arsenal, I'd have to go for Man U.
Except not.
Because when Man U lose, Cristiano might weep. Resistance against Cristiano's tears is useless.
Um. Just so you know. *gggg*
P.S. Although Arsenal/Chelsea! Wenger/Mourinho!!

Date: 2006-12-17 11:02 pm (UTC)For me it's been a toss up (?) between Arsenal and ManU as well because Arsenal play beautiful football, they seem to have players who are actually intelligent and - and this is a very important and - they have Jens Lehmann whom I adore. On the other hand there's ManU. Their biggest pro in my fangirly eyes is obviously the Cristianochen and they also are capapble of playing beautifully.
It's funny but yesterday I decided that I will support ManU. I searched youtube for new Cristiano vids and stumbled upon a 4-parts documentary-thingie about ManU back in the days of Becks. No wonder he misses the ManU team spirit - they had a quizz and a golf tournament staff vs. players. Hilarious! And everybody was so friendly and relaxed and all. Gotta love this club.
Arsenal vs. ManU? I so want Cristiano to score but I don't want JensiMaus to concede a goal. *shrugs helplessly* I would go for Jens throwing Cristiano to the ground and make mad passionate love to him. he did the first here (1:58)
but sadly the love part was missing. *cackles madly*

Date: 2006-12-18 05:46 pm (UTC)I do? Oh my god, I'm so excited. Really!?? Of course, you remember the last match between ManU and Arsenal and The Shot? In case it's not as fresh anymore, watch here:
+ pic of Cristiano's non-reaction afterwards
and from that handshake
And you know that Cesc Fabregas, that cheeky little git, picked some kind of fight with Cristiano in the tunnel after the match and Cristiano alledgedly shoved him or something when JensiMaus or rather MadJens pulled him off and threw him away?
And that Cristiano and Cesc know each other from playing in the same team at that Joga 3 thingie? See here:
and here for Cristiano interview and Robbie Keane gushing about him :D:
What? I may have thought about this a little before. And compulsively searched youtube for Jens/Cristiano moments. So what? *cackles*

Date: 2006-12-19 04:01 pm (UTC)Youtube is brilliant. I'm just wondering if there is some kind of etikette like can I just upload a video again if the original 'uploader' is no longer there? I want an Internet Knigge.
Great! That's what I wanted. Obviously Jens is very protective of his teammates. No wonder since they're in avarage like 15 years younger than him. Hehe! God, I love Jens. So witty!

I so totally want one. With strange 1950s line drawings, women in swirl skirts and amoeba shaped coffee tables and Pollock curtains and men with sharp parts and manly chins. And being told how to fold a napkin the correct way.
Lesson 1: How to drool with restraint and decorum on youtube.
Lesson 2: On when and when not to post pictures of naked football stars.
Lesson 3: To 'argh' or to 'ack': Correct usage according to every occasion.
Lesson 4: On the uppermost limit of daily refreshings of one's Jens/Cristiano page.
Lesson 5: Fold your napkins into penis shapes.

Date: 2006-12-19 12:26 pm (UTC)Hm. I've been a member for 6 months and have, apparently, watched 479 clips. But my excuse is: t'sons also watch clips on my laptop! This distorts the statistics!!!
You are still SO DOOMED.

Date: 2006-12-19 04:04 pm (UTC)Not all is football. Actually 34 of them are figure skating, 3 are Gnarls Barkley and okay, so the rest is football and okay, so most of them are Cristiano.
As an excuse - I kind of went into overdrive when I got the flatrate? *cough* So, it doesn't really work. Can I blame it on Cristiano then? I swear the boy is making my brain cells stop working.

Thinking about it, I'm not exactly sure what I mean by this, so you'd probably better not ask me to explain myself...
