I don't feel 'complete', as Kajol says in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, without my daily dose of LiveJournal but at the moment, real life is dissipating my online focus. I feel a bit lost without it but there may be light on the horizon. Yesterday, I had a meeting with boss-type person and it seems (you can never be sure at my institution) that she thinks I will still be employed there in February next year. So that's about 9 months longer than I'd expected! Anyway, my salary survives.

I've also had a mighty kick in terms of my faith in football. More of that anon; I still feel quite raw about it. I am so disaffected that I removed Kaká, C. Ronaldo and José Mourinho from my desktop pictures. I almost tore off all my football stars from the laundry walls. Back to my one and only: Brad.

Suffice it to say: when t'choice is football or son, there really isn't a choice.

I don't know what's going on with your son, but football has indeed been very disaffecting recently.

Good news about work though.

:-) This is grassroots football, but it's had a negative effect on my appreciation of top level football as well.

Note: no football icon being used.

hmm. i don't approve of the fear tactics/veiled threats that seem to be in favour at your uni. *voluntary* redundancy is in no way the same as compulsory redundancy. it is my understanding also that if the latter was the case your uni is obliged to try and find you alternative employment in another dept. (leastaways, that's what happened in another dept. at my place). did you speak to your union guy??

b.x :)

I'm glad you're pointing out the difference between voluntary and compulsory redundancy. Much gets blurred at my uni. I spoke to the union during my stressful redundancy threat period last semester and found out a few helpful things, such as 'they can't make ME redundant, only my job -- if anyone is found doing anything I was doing after I have left, that is constructive dismissal and I can sue them', and 'you can't be made redundant on the basis of too few hours'.

You know what is creepy? Seltsame Verkettung Von Umständen.

There just was a discussion on German fanfic where I peeked by and started talking to somebody about Karl May fanfic. It made me dig out some ancient document where I found the link to a ficlet that zarah5 had written and that still sort of is my ultimate W/OS story. You were one of the people it was dedicated to so I clicked you. And your second post mentions Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kajol, actually one of my favorite movies and her one of my eternal actress crushes.

The world is indeed small.

Er, sorry for the runby.

Not really, there are some German ones, but I agree there totally should be more. Especially after rediscovering this article that just reminded me again how slashy they are.

Darn, I really have to find some to write me some or write some myself.

That article!! Thanks so much for the link! Where, oh where, is that link to Auf den Baerenfellen?? God, that article reminded me of all my youthful Winnetou/Old Shatterhand love. This goes way back to a very tender age! Teh slasher is born slashy, I am convinced of it. We grow up and just wait to glom on that slashy goodness.

Aha! Well, I'm not that behind, then... *g*

Although if I can ever bring myself to write fanfic in German....?!! I may have to write the 'translated version'.

Now, why don't I have a Winnetou icon??

Also, is Old S. everyone's Mary Sue, or do some people actually identify with Winnetou and drool over Sharlie?? I am totally Sharlie Sue and want to fuck Winnetou five ways to Christmas.

Um. I think I did even at the tender age of nine. Except I just didn't know it yet. I was certainly obsessed.

Also, on the subject of German-speaking lust bunnies: have 12 of them in one icon. *gg*

Yepp, some icons would definitely fun (frogspace at the karlmay comm has a cute one that says "slash scout" :D).

I always got the impression that kinda in a general way the public as a whole loved Winnetou more. Heh, I remember talking to a friend about KM and she mentioned that her mother would always dream that Pierre Brice would ride on a horse from Paris to Austria and pick her up :D

Either way, it felt that as far as the romantic/dreaming aspect goes, that people were a lot more crazy about W, if you read like the books and newspaper articles on the subject. But maybe that's just my perception.

I have to say, in the fic I'm plotting in my head W is the one who gets to screw OS. Mostly because I'm sadistic that way because OS is always so religious. I wanna see him bent ;p

AAAArgh! about taking down the pics and all. What happened? And - what happened?
