I realise that I haven't posted yesterday so I miss out on my pedw badge but!! I did slog on with t'novel! I didn't feel like it, it was late evening on a crowded train, I scribbled rubbish on a note pad but I did it anyway!

Word count, quake in fear!

I went to an absolutely fascinating MBA Open Day at Ashridge Business School in the rolling parklands of Berkhamsted yesterday. The school is in what used to be a 13th C. monastery. They were asked if they could be the film location for Hogwarts but declined. A sumptuous place and with a business school! Bizarre. We got a tour of the place and three taster lessons plus a free lunch. I was starting to think, who needs to pay 40.000 pounds? I'll just travel up and down country from open day to open day, if they're all like this...

I need to get more words under my belt so cannot post in detail about this Open Day but it was vary fascinating. I came away thinking I am certainly able to do it intellectually and personally (which I hadn't really before; I was thinking 'argh, businessy types, at once intimidating and to-be-looked-down-upon'), and that I think I certainly could get work that pays me 70.000 pounds plus a year (I'm currently on 30.000) but I also came away thinking but I want to be a novelist and there'll be no time for that if I do an MBA.

Ah well, as I broke my pedw chain I don't have to reveal my breakfast ingestion either, *g*.

Really, they've been asked if they would be Hogwarts? Cool. Erh, okay, back to the topic... Yep.

So, it's good to know that you could do it, that it interests you enough. Now you have all the options and get to decide. Though 40,000 pounds... Holy fuck!

i'm working part time at a business school at the moment, in germany. are you thinking about doing a "regular" mba or an executive one?

I thought a regular one because my institution won't sponsor me, anyway, but I don't think I'm prepared to make the sacrifice of time required at this stage and be away from my family all week. They said it is a very rigorous schedule, basically 8-7 5 days a week. And when will I write my novel??

How is working at the business school? What are you doing there exactly? Did you do an MBA?

i started as a student assistant, now i'm working as a marketing assistant until i find something in my field (i just graduated from uni). i haven't done an mba, and i don't think i ever will. all those business types are not really my thing :) but i do think an mba can be a good thing, even though it is really hard work.

why don't you look into executive mbas, maybe you could get a scholarship? one of the women working at my school (in recruiting, full time) is doing that right now, and she seems to be coping well, timewise.
