I have now gone to check my email and found an email from [livejournal.com profile] thamiris's estranged husband, tellling me that she died last week of breast cancer and that he was emailing people who had conversed with her frequently on LJ. It was an odd email to receive but I appreciate the kind thought behind it and that he went to the trouble of chasing up people.

Others have also now linked to Thamiris' obituary where there is also a guest book that one can sign (the internet has something for everything, truly) and the details for leaving donations. As others have noted, the thing is not to connect her fannish name to her real name, please.

I've contacted some of Thamiris' Friends. We didn't really share any Friends so it was good to make some contact.

Reading the real life guest book entries made me realise that I do not know what Thamiris looks like. This is perhaps the strangest aspect of online friendships. You can know someone very well and love them, but you wouldn't recognise them in the street or to identify in a morgue. Does anyone have a picture of [livejournal.com profile] thamiris?

As a long time lurker on her journal, and admirer of her writing, I am very sorry to hear this. I have a distant memory of a post where she described what she looked like, but I can't find it now in her archives.

It is very, very sad. I've been feeling confused and frail all evenings and cruising helplessly through others' posts and her obituary.

This is so sad. I didn't know her well at all, but we connected a few times on LJ, and I loved her writing. *hugs*

Sweetie, you've got your own stuff to deal with. All this death is very strange. Death is strange. And we remain here, to talk about it. I keep thinking, how odd that our world is called LIVE-journal. And how, somehow, apt. Posting and commenting does seem to be a very life-affirming thing to do, strangely. And it is very strange to glance at someone's life-affirming LJ when they are dead and it is a memorial. I can't bring myself to do it but others have gone to read Thamiris's stories and posts.

I think it's lovely that in addition to her RL achievements, she has left behind such a wonderful virtual presence.

And speaking of virtual, thanks so much for the v-gift. It made me smile! *hugs*

I was thinking the same thing as I was reading her obituary. It is a strange thing.

So sad.

It is very strange. I think of her as that icon of hers, on my LJ lay-out. That is Thamiris how I know and have known her. It is very sad.

I have poked around various links and official sites -- feels horridly intrusive -- but I don't think there is a publically-posted photo of her in either her Real or Imaginary persona.

No, I've not found a picture either. For me she will remain her icon.

It's an odd feeling to lose someone like [livejournal.com profile] thamiris, that I only knew through her journal and her fiction. I felt quite alone yesterday. I didn't realize how widespread her influence was in fandom and on my friends list.

It's actually the one nice thing to see the posts everywhere about Thamiris. I am so relieved to find others who knew and loved her and miss her, in that strange online way that isn't noted by the greeting card industry. I don't share many of Thamiris' Friends; on my Flist, I tend to be the only one who had Friended her so I've been cruising around to others' lists. It really helps to have others share the sadness, I find.
