message centre
Apr. 28th, 2007 10:48 pmI've not been getting messages in my message centre for ten days now. Yesterday I did a test: I tacked a comment of mine and yes, the LJ user did comment back, but this did not appear in the message centre.
Has this been happening to anyone else? And what should I do about it? I have 294 messages in my message centre: is there an overload, as with email? Do I need to delete them all?

Date: 2007-04-29 07:44 am (UTC)Do me a favour? Confirm that when you've tracked this comment that you clicked the right checkboxes. There was a change last week to the way the tracking system works and a lot of people don't seem to have noticed. You now have to first click the "notify me" checkbox on the far left, and then check your preferred checkboxes on the right. If you've done it correctly, your tracked items will be here: http://www.livejournal.com/manage/subscriptions/
(btw, I'm not sure if the system is staying that way as far as what you have to click. I already asked and I get the impression that it's not. I'm waiting until the next release to see if it's reverted before I ask again and then make a formal suggestion.)
If it's all done correctly and you're still not getting notifications.... I *think* the original recommendation did include deleting old messages and seeing if that helped. I have no idea if it worked. But if you just want to try things, you might as well. Delete unneeded subscriptions if you don't need them either. If it's still not working, open a request at http://www.livejournal.com/support/ . Explain exactly which steps you've followed, and definitely confirm that your subscriptions are appearing on the subscription page but that you're not getting notifications. Do realize that because it's very new investigation and the devs are still trying to figure out what the cause is, you probably won't get a reply for a while.
