Remember that political (orig) thriller I am writing with a (rl) friend? Well, he read my first chapter of it yesterday and expressed astonishment at how 'masculine' the writing was. "You couldn't tell it was written by a woman."

I felt absurdly and utterly chuffed by this. And hilarified, too. Ah. little does he know where I getteth my practice from...

Heh, it's writing women wot i have to practise. :-)

*is aglow and oh, so rugged*

P.S. I say 'orig' but I am finding that the boundaries are really very, very fluid. And the actual experience of writing orig and so-called non-orig totally interchangeable.

I'm glad the thriller deal is working out for you, and all, but I'm kinda pissed off at the friend's expectations.

I am very fond of this friend but he lives in a world of his own. For one, his comment that it was 'masculine' is based on precisely 1 1/2 novels he's read in his life. So it's kind of endearing that he is trying to make these 'knowledgeable' remarks. :-) But I can see how from the outside and without knowing him this would sound annyoying. And, if I didn't have slash under my belt, I'd probably be miffed. *g*

P.S. Otoh, it shows me that I can successfully masquerade. So maybe I can now inject this into female characters and write non-Mary Sue??? *hopes*

Didn't someone once read one of your fics and think you were a man. And that person was also a man? As is this friend of yours? That's a whole lotta men goin' on.

In conclusion: MAN!

i tend to find that thrillers are such a distinct genre where the masculine/feminine roles are quite stereotypical, so well done you!

Yes! You're right, it was the genre aspect that enabled me to do it! And I have to divulge that I did slip in a little slashy bit which would have been identifiable to anyone on my Flist but was utterly undetected by this rl person. *giggles naughtily*
