I have been overdosing on the ext-DVD.

Geek heaven! So many technicians, so many Weta computer designers, and so many shots of the yummiest Richard Taylor on Earth!

My god, what sort of a fandom is this that gets you drooling over the creative supervisor of visual effects?

That man... Why I love the Duck:

- He is gorgeous.
OK, primitive reason number 1, *g*. But in some of those shots he looks positively rumpled. And that shoelace thing he uses to hold his glasses!! I die for that shoelace thing!
He has a cut on his thumb! He has a no-nonsense watch.

- His accent kills me.
I could listen to that voice for hours. (Er, I *have* listened to that voice for hours.) Not only the daggy NZ accent but also the slow, deliberate delivery. *dies*

- He is not an actor!
Oh, what a relief from the eternal 'me-me-me' profession! He has an office! He has an office chair with castors! And he *knows* stuff!
Contrast Actor vs Real Professional:

Actor's vague effusions:
"'It was an awesome setting." "The sets blew me away." (Astin)
"I've seen beautiful sets before but this was so amazing, all the massive sets, amazing." (Wood)

The Duck's enthusiastic precision:
"We made Orthanc out of microcrystalline wax and used hot wax to melt the elements together. We then mad a huge silicone matrix mould, eventually replicating it in encapsulating resin."
*dies again*

Other non-actors:
Andrew Lesnie, the director of photographer (a very yummy personage in his own right), *kisses* Brian Somebody (Bands?), the gaffer / lighting technician.

My God!! I need to find a screencap and then I need to beg, borrow, steal to get an icon of That Kiss! ('Cameras in Middle-Earth', title 15, chapter 12, 0.32.19)

This DVD is so slashy it boggles my brain.

Viggo hugs Kiran!! It's "Average" come to life!! Er, I got Kiran as Dom's double totally wrong on that, of course, despite all my research.

And that Fon is delicious! As is Brett, the Gimli-double. Not to mention Bekay (spelling?)!!!! And the fish curry! He's a true slash man: always in the kitchen.

The f/f repertoire is also finally expanded by a scrumptious orc woman (the one in the yellowish feline outfit) and Mary McLaughlin (sp?) and that great Claire Cunningham who tells everyone to switch off their mobiles or she'll throw them into the ocean.

Dominic on the fireworks scene with Billy:
"Billy, being this slightly kind of feminine character that he is was really quite scared by it and made this girly kind of 'woo-hoo-ho' shriek which I barely got through the take on."

Billy: "I just, like, got such a fright and *Dom* just gave me abuse for it all day."

Btw, Dom did quite a good imitation of a girly shriek himself when he was imitating Billy's girly shriek, *g*, complete with flapping hands.

And Dom does *voices*. Indian! Viggo! Hah.

Thus endeth the DVD-drool. Excessive watching thereof made me dream of the Duck last night.

How's this? (http://www.bagendinn.com/images/cap270.jpg)

I believe the Brian in question is Brian Bamsgrove, who unfortunately passed away late last year.

I desperately want to slash Duck and Randy Cook. There was a fantastic interview with them around Oscar time. Dunno if it's still up.

Where is the bit where Dom says Bill is feminine?

this is sad

What, he died? That nice technician man died?? This makes me sad. I can't have an icon of them now, it seems too awful. How do you know he died?

But thank you so much for the picture! But I can't enjoy it as much now, knowing that he died.

Which one is Randy Cook? God, cast o'thousands.

And Dom calls Billy feminine here:
Disc 4, "Cameras in Middle-Earth", Title 15, chapter 2, minute: 0.06.55

For some obscure reason, this made me laugh out loud! I love that you have already noted the exact points where these things are on the DVD. I haven't managed to quite finish watching everything yet. I've done two comentaries (cast and techies), all of disk 3 and most of disk 4. So much LOTR goodness all in one neat package!

I want that man. Just. Gah, the talent...

But, heh, yeah. Sounds like you're having a merry old time with your geeky technician people. I'll just be sitting here bibbling over the Hobbits... of course...
