As a reminder to what advent is about: waiting for the birth of a new life.
And what that means to me: the birth of a new baby. Life, and contained within that, death, fragility and love.
In the south of Germany, it's not Father Christmas who comes and brings the present but 'das Christkind', the Christ child, whom I always used to envisage as a shining golden angel when I was little but who is also often envisaged as a baby.
