Dear yaoi-knowlegeable flist:

If I wanted to read Amano Yamane's Finder series, vol.1 (sometimes known as Viewfinder, I have no idea why), and if this cost 70 pounds to buy second-hand in the UK and was out-of-print, and if the US seller won't ship to the UK...

where might I, *cough*, view this item?

Unfortunately, I've never seen it anywhere (and now I want to, damnit!) but you could always try the Yaoi Daily Café. They might help you find either a cheaper version to buy or a scanlation somewhere or something. Definitely worth a try, I think. :-) And if you find it online, please, oh please, share? *bats eyelashes*

Hm, this does not sound promising. How long can I hold out before I shell out vast sums of money??

I found it for download! But unfortunately only in French. The teams who scanlated it in English initially scrapped it when it was licensed in the US. I can point you to the French scans, though. I'd offer to translate it all back to English, but that'd take me a loooonnng time. Not that I won't do it if you want, just that I couldn't promise to have them done any time soon.

But, if you want the french scans, they're here: http://nakedtruth.free.fr/viewfinder.php

Oh my, thank you so much! Of course, I can read this in French. I checked German websites, too, and I could do Italian, and Dutch at a pinch. Even Spanish I could probably plough through, and after all, it's the aesthetics of the pictures! *waits patiently for download*

You've made my jour, darling!

:-) I was happy to provide (and read it myself along the way *g*). I had a feeling you might be able to read the French ones, and anyway, most of it doesn't make a lot of sense, as is often the case with scanlations, lol. But the art is still gorgeous and that's enough for me. :-)

I think my brain (and body) may have imploded from reading this comic. I can see why Finder is so famous and so very sold out! Goodness me, that is one hot manga. *phew* And I'm only up to chapter 7... I love the French, actually! It preserves the tu/vous distinction which adds a lot of nuance.

It is very very hot, yes. I'd read other stuff by the same mangaka when I first got into yaoi but I'd forgotten just how much I'd enjoyed those, lol. Now I remember. :-D

And you know, that's true. I hadn't thought about the whole tu/vous distinction... uh. Maybe I should always read scanlations in my own language, than, lol.

I figured I'd just round one up for you at my bookstore - but status is out of print...copies on our website STARTING at $499.00! JESUS! even figuring the value of the dollar, I find this a bit EXCESSIVE! If you find scans in English I'd love to hear about it (what is the fuss?) but for now I'll make do reading the French that your sister so generously provided...

I know, isn't this extreme?? The world of yaoi is something else. The second-hand sellers have clearly cottoned onto the combination of 'out of print' / 'obsessed drooling fangirls' and are cannily hoiking their prices. But hey, I can read this in French! No problemo.

500 dollars...?! This is more expensive than a Latin incunabula from the 17th century!

Heh, that may be but I have to say that my brain and body have now imploded from reading a French online 'scanlation' of the Finder manga. It is trè hot.

P.S. Am I betraying my art-historical roots?????

But some of those mediaeval illuminations also had quite a bit of rumpy-pumpy going on. I just don't recall that degree of bondage...

Oh yes! The Greek porn! Nymphs and satyrs *come* away ...
But you're right, apart from a few rapine-inclined centaurs, not so much with the bondage. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] crazybutsound I have a whole new set of toys to play with.Oh my!!!!
"Tres chaude", indeed!
*grins maniacally*
