"Wo warst du denn gewesen?" fragt Nelli ihn.

"Fort," sagt Saltpeter.

Er is halt einfach wieder da.

"Waaas?"

"I wo," sagt Saltpeter und lacht.

Saltpeter sagt gar nichts.

"Vielleicht heiratest du ja auch bald," meint Nelli tröstend.

"Ja," sagt Saltpeter, "ja, ich heirate bald."

"Was?"

gebabysittet! German is so funny!

I think I understand but not with any degree of subtlety. :)

Well, it's not all that subtle a story...

Who knows if the word 'gebabysittet' even exists? That's what I wrote in 1984, and that's what I typed up. It should probably be something like Kinder hüten or some such crap. I am also never sure whether it is *der* Babysitter or *die* Babysitterin.

Hee, I didn't think so but am always plagued by lingering uncertainty that one of the words I didn't know and therefore skipped was crucial to the sense. Eg. "They woke up and it was all a dream." *l*

Be as Shakespeare, baybee -- it exists now!

Oh, this was just lovely. Just sweet and simple and nice. I'm not at all surprised that you were a promising writer in your early years, and I can see bits of your "grown-up" style showing already!

I'm pretty sure that "gebabysitted" is a word- I used it all the time! *g*

Oh, and how do you do the umlauts? I did it once by mistake, but can't remember how!

From: [identity profile] lobelia321.livejournal.com
Umlauts? Well, these ones I just pasted in from Word. But the html code is as follows (bonus ß eszett thrown in at end although I am unsure how the ß is used these days after the Rechtschreibereform):

ü ;
Ü ;
ä ;
Ä ;
ö ;
Ö ;
ß ;

Just close up the space before the ; to make the umlaut.

And you're a mad old thing to find this sweet but a dear, too. It's the shortest and most "complete" text I could find. I never *finished* anything! I may post another one that I like better, written more in the humour-style that I also thought I had invented for lotrips but that I apparently had all along. wtf 111

Am amazed that people are reading this in *German*!

Thank you!

Wow, I think that's the first time I've been called a mad old thing. Ah, middle age is calling! *g* I never finished much in the early years either, although my mother saved a rather ridiculous pirate-adventure story I wrote as a nine-year-old. It was hilariously violent and obviously influenced by all of the pirate "research" I was conducting.

I think there are quite a few German-speaking LJ-ers actually. Post more!

Encouragement!!

The Germans I know are: [livejournal.com profile] ios_pillow_book, [livejournal.com profile] zarah5, [Unknown site tag], [livejournal.com profile] blithesea and you, of course. Any others I've missed?

I need to read your violent pirate story!!!!! Was it influenced by the Wilde 13??

Let's see- a few more German-speakers I can think of off the top of my head are [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com].

I need to have my mother send me a copy of the pirate story. It was really influenced mostly by a Time-Life book my parents had on pirates. It was beautifully illustrated and I read it from cover to cover several times. It was around that time I heard about the Wilde 13, probably because some German relative heard about the pirate-fixation. *g* I need to go dig out my old children's books. What fun!

O, acari and mystisblom are Germans?!

If German rels heard about the pirate fixation, does that mean you did not grow up in Germany??

I have re-read Jim Knopf twice as an adult, to my children, and it is still one of the great books. I love it!

No, I came here to live as a small child, although I visited Germany often and spent a couple university years there. Heh. I re-read my children's books all the time.

Freiburg! So pretty. Bächle. I've been there twice. Wonderful Dom, too. (As in 'Doooom', not as in 'Dommm', heh. But we've had this conversation. *giggles*)

I was in Heidelberg for my Grundstudium, and then Berlin.

Ah yes, it's lovely. And I'm particularly fond of the Dom. *hee* (I know, I know). I've only been to Heidelberg once, but it looks like a wonderful place to be a student!

O, it is. Heidelberg is really lovely. And being a student there is intense because it's a small place and you bump into people all the time. It also is a rather beautiful place.

Oh, and I totally forgot to comment on your story. I like that name, Saltpeter. Do you remember why you choose that? Someone mentioned the story felt sueddeutsch, I can only second that. Sueddeutsch is totally not what I identify with, but I liked the tone of the story nevertheless. It made me feel like being a child, when time just flies and you seldom get the whole picture because grown-ups never tell you as much as you want to now.

Thank you so much for fb on my juvenilia!

And yes, sueddeutsch. I wrote this while living in Heidelberg where I went to uni for 5 semesters. And I can't remember why I chose that name. I always liked to choose unusual or made-up names. (One thing that is lost to me now that I have sunk 100 percent into the world of rps...)

Sheesh, the tragic! At least I perceived the story being sad. Makes me want to give Saltpeter a hug, and all kinds of other simple sentiments.

I am entranced by the way it sounds so very süddeutsch; as if my room mate from Franken was telling me a little story.

1984, how old were you then?

It's fun to try and recognize your writing style in a completely different language. :-)

Süddeutsch: interesting. I was living in Heidelberg at the time. Although, hm, I think in May I was still in Sydney. And 1984: I turned 22 that November.

Thank you for reading my juvenilia! :-)
