A year ago, on 4 April, the wonderful and dear [livejournal.com profile] thamiris died.

I miss her a lot and often. She wrote awesome fic. Just two examples: The baroque and lush, philosophy-as-slash God/Lucifer In principio, and the gorgeously mindblowing Snape/Lupin Lies in the Rookery.

Thamiris loved language, and she loved LJ. She was the most consistently courteous and respectful person to have on my Friendslist. Whenever kerfuffles erupted, she was there in a little calm lake of reason, and she always kept her priorities firmly on what matters: a hot boy's mouth around another hot boy's cock. And that was the great thing about her, too: she was so totally uncoy about sex.

I was so shocked and disoriented when I found out that she had died. It breaks my heart to see her LJ still up and still alive and bubbling with irreverence and life. Her fandom when I first met her was Smallville, and I can't see that show any longer; I am too much reminded.

In memoriam.

Yes. Her birthday came up on my LJ reminder and I thought about her all day. I find the fact her LJ is still up a comfort, though.

I'm so happy that someone else remembers Thamiris. I didn't know (m)any of the Friends on her List and after her death it was very hard, connecting up with people. I was surprised at how important I found it to need to hook up with others who remember. And she died very close to her birthday, didn't she?

I would be very spooked if her LJ suddenly disappeared but I never look at it, I have to confess. Nor do I read her stories. Not yet, anyway. It's too upsetting.

A very touching tribute - your words are profound. I wish I'd known her too.

I'm there with you -- I think of Thamiris frequently -- so often that I am surprised. I knew her from about 1996 on just after my son was born and I had time to spend writing fanfic while on mat leave. I discovered her "Ksmithares" mailing list and her fiction and was hooked into slash and fandom. I had never watched Xena or Hercules but started so I could catch up and write in the fandom. She and I had a falling out and then became friends once more after which I followed her fiction, checking up to see how she was doing and what she was writing, even if we no longer shared the same fandom -- I moved to LOTR and Matrix/Smith fic and she moved on to Smallville and HP. She taught me so much about writing and the joy of words and writing sex.

She seemed to vanish from fandom and I searched to find out how she was, as I knew her real name and location. I discovered she had cancer from a post somewhere about a run for cancer research and was devastated to learn. I then contacted her through her livejournal and she emailed me to let me know how she was. I got the email one month to the day before she died.

I miss her.

Azimuth! So lovely to hear from you. How are you, my dear? I haven't heard from you for absolute ages; wasn't even sure you check into LJ any more. Anyway, that's a topic for a separate post. I think we communicated about Thamiris before, and about her real-life tribute website. I'm not sure I knew about the falling out (gosh, how did that happen? Fandom can be harsh). I was devastated when she disappeared from LJ in about November 2006 and overjoyed when she reappeared, only to disappear for good a few weeks later. It's haunted me quite a bit. I, too, think of her frequently.

I miss her awfully.

Her death hit me really hard probably because we were close in age and shared common interests. Of course, also because I knew her for quite a while and she helped me personally with my writing. Our falling out was quite silly and deserves to stay in the dark, but it was a bit of oversensitivity on both our parts, I think. I feel really bad that she never had any original fiction published -- at least that I know of. I always wanted to see her write original fiction and get published for her writing was so lush and vivid, I hated to think that only we slashers got to enjoy it. There are several of her stories I read from time to time to remind myself of how much I enjoyed fanfic and how good it can be.

I pop in from time to time to read what people on my flist are up to. I have been taking a graduate course on public policy since January (going to try to finish my PhD) and so I have neither written a word of original fiction or fanfic. Crazy, I know but I just want to finish the PhD before my brain falters too much from advanced age! :)

Hugs!

I wish you had known her, too. She was absolutely lovely. She lived in Vancouver and died age 41. She was an academic, a scholar of mediaeval and later English literature.

I meant to reply to this post and forgot. Like [livejournal.com profile] lady_of_asheru I noticed [livejournal.com profile] thamiris's birthday reminder come up -- it's very strange, isn't it? I haven't noticed Kia's birthday come up, presumably because it's not entered on her profile, or perhaps just because I happen not to have logged into Semagic that day. I don't know for sure because I can't go back and look at the journals of people I knew who died, for some reason. I just can't quite do it.

I do wish I'd known Thamiris better. She was such a wonderful, vital presence here on LJ and in fandom, and it's not the same without her.
