Have you read [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza's OK Computer?

It is a phenomenal story. It has gorgeous dialogue, swoonmaking characterisations, delicious scenarios and, to top it all, an absolutely breathtaking plot. It is so unusual to find an intricate, clever, satisfying, twisting and turning doggone plot in fanfic, and this one is magnificent.

There are four voices in this (I won't spoiler which ones; they are unusual combinations) and Speranza keeps them all in such perfect control that I was, at any rate, not confused even once. And she does it in such subtle ways.

It's McKay/Sheppard, and about 58 pages in print-out (Times New Roman, size 12, margins set to 1 cm).

10 out of 10.

If you liked [livejournal.com profile] astolat's Time in a Bottle, you will love this fic.

And if you didn't, you will love this fic, anyway. :-)

I can't pimp it enough.

'tis bookmarked! I do hope I actually get some time to read it soon.

Have you read her Written by the Victors? I'm not sure whether you were online at the time she posted it. If not, I have to recommend it. It has an index and a fictional bibliography, and people have made all sorts of things to go with it. It even has its own fictional Amazon page, made by lim.

Now, I'm hoping this post is relatively private because I am in awe of Speranza and don't want her to read anything adverse (how does one flock a comment but not a post? I may delete once you've read it) but I came to Written by the Victors via podcast. It was intriguing at first, all those different voices with different accents... but then the story sort of meandered and fizzled out and I lost interest. Is it better in written format? I just couldn't get the interest going again. It languishes still on my ipod.

The sex seemed grafted on.

I haven't heard the podcast but the written story? Absolutley great work. But you have to take the time to actually read the "documentary" parts too cause knowing what various "official voices" such as historians, former Atlantis-members etc. say about the situation, how they assess the happenings from their hindsight-perspective (and seeing how *wrong* some of them are in their assessment) and then "comparing" those to the "actual happenings", meaning the events Cesperanza tells us about, is half of the fun. :-) And if you pay close attention to the dates of those "documents" you realize fearly quick that all the bigwigs on earth think that Atlantis has fallen and was destroyed while Atlantis and Pegasus actually thrive.

It's a great story but one you really have to take your time to enjoy undisturbed and put the pieces you're given together (the "documents" at the beginning, the story itself and the more "legendary" parts at the end that show us just how well they did after the actual story ends) to get the whole picture. And Queenzulu mad a Vid to go with it that absolutely and perfectly captures the events of the story. It's simply amazing. "Victors" isn't just a story, the whole thing is kind of an "experience". :-)

Hm, okay, that's interesting. Maybe it doesn't actually translate that well into podcasting, then, because the timeline and switches in voice need to be taken in spatially, as it were, flipping back the page and checking something that one read earlier and so forth.

I know that everybody was talking about this fic which happened while I had my six months LJ holiday so I kind of got hold of the tail end of the comet and the podcast was possibly not the best introduction.

Thanks for this comment. It clarified stuff.

Exactly. It's a little bit like putting the pieces of a puzzle together to enjoy the complete picture you get. :-) I assume that hearing the podcast can be fine *after* you know what "Victors" is all about and you regocnize certain bits and parts you enjoyed before. But as an introduction - possibly not the best way. :-)

I don't think you can flock a comment but not a post! :)

Well, I read it and enjoyed it very much -- I did then start listening to the podcast, just because it was a fun idea and I really like the thought of all those fandom people coming together like that. But I didn't listen to all of it -- podfic just isn't for me, I'm afraid. It may not be the same thing for you, though, of course.

Well, we seem to have had the same experience, in that case, *g*, except you had the podcast!bore experience after having read the actual fic. :-)
