The semester's teaching has started. I am in a new office, in a new department and in a new building. I am teaching four new modules in a discipline not my own. (Film studies!)

I am very, very busy.

Film studies, that sounds incredibly neat. What sort of stuff are the modules focusing on?

(sorry, I haven't been around the internets very much recently until last week, and I'm woefully behind on what's going on in everyone's lives. But film studies sounds very cool)

Film studies is partly neat and partly not.

Why not: I am not a film studies person, I'm an art historian! I have to devise all the course material anew and can't reach into my drawer to pull out ready-made lectures, fine-tuned over the years. I need to get up-to-speed on about 20 films and films are LONG! A painting I can look at in one minute! I'm getting to grips with collating all my clips but it's fiddly and takes ages so I am BUSY.

I'm maybe a tiny bit excited but mostly just exhausted. I love art history!! Film is fine but it's exhausting having to draw up new lesson plans and collate clips and run around with my head cut off.

And I can only imagine. I was running around like that last semester and I only had the one class to prepare. Well, okay, and proposals to write. Still. It is exhausting to prepare lesson plans, get the material together and in order and all that.
