Karl's beautiful accent

What has happened to Karl's kiwi accent between this interview and more recent ones, such as this one??? Why has he transformed himself into a Man with an American Accent?

Why, Karl, oh why? Whativver heppened to your Nyew Zealund eccunt???

(Yes, I hereby admit that I just scoured youtube for interviews with Karl Urban. Why did we not have this facility for lotrips??!)

He had to ditch the accent to play Dr. Leonard McCoy in Star Trek, who had a charming southern USA accent. It'll come back, honey, do not despair.

I am despairing because:

a) Why does he have to keep talking in an American accent even when out of role and simply chatting to an interviewer?

b) Youtube reveals that his interviews for previous films were also conducted in an American accent. You've got to go back quite some time to get to the kiwi accent.

He is conforming! He is buckling under! *weeps*
