Today I bought Barack Obama's book The Audacity of Hope. It's the first book by a politician that I've ever read. I've never been interested in the literary output of politicians. It's really, really interesting to read. I'm not getting all of the references (e.g. what is GOP? T'h says, Grand Old Party = Republicans. I hadn't known that) but the insights into the day-to-day workings of government are very fascinating to me. This book was written before he ran for president and knowing how the story continues casts this amazing glow over the whole thing.

Anyway, I'm already on page 74. What a fangirl I've turned into. But if you can't vote for the man, buy the man's book, right?

Fascinating, I'd love to know what you think when you've finished it. His other book looks interesting too. I'm trying not to get too starry-eyed over Obama, but he makes it quite difficult...

I haven't read this one but read "Dreams From My Father" - actually, I listened to the audiobook version, which is read by Obama himself. It's really quite awesome although it bogs down a little with his visit to Kenya. I think it's an interesting insight into how he became the man he did.

I am totally starry-eyed. I am German, after all, and the Germans, it seems, have adopted him as their own president and fanvolk icon. I bought the German weekly periodical Der Spiegel today, and it has pages upon pages of glossy Obama pics (looks a lot like my Orli folder from 2002, hoho), even ads touting his photo, and the line 'Der Weltpräident' (the world's president -- so that he can be GERMANY's president, too!). There is even an ad for a biography or something of the German footballer Podolski, and I swear they've photoshopped him to look black, to look like Obama!

I've read half of the book and only today did I come across some paragraphs that I thought were a bit weak (on education). The rest is fantastic!

Awww, glad you like it and it's always nice to impress someone - but it's just a bit of photoshopping.
