I took a poll and 10 people said 'Merlin'!!

But 3 people (more than for BoB and for Primeval) said: Aamir Khan! Dominic Monaghan! And even (wickedly): Karl Urban!) So that seems to be Hot New Fandom Number Two.

How hilarious.

But Merlin! I need some help here, dear Merlinesque flist! I would like to write a quick fun fic, with a) kissing, b) sex, c) butterflies in stomachs, d) a modicum of angst, e) some perspiration, and f) some magicking or whatever it is that rocks this fandom's boat. How can I find out enough about this fandom in about 15 minutes to write this fic?

I just want, say, two short fics by different authors to give me an insight into the fanon.

And then, say, one link to a 10-minute or shorter youtube clip to give me an insight into the canon. (I note that [livejournal.com profile] frogspace has linked a vid so maybe that's all I need to know about canon?)

I mean, Merlin and Arthur and ye olde times -- it can't be that hard, right?

Also, the thought of getting up to speed with a fandom in the space of half an hour fills me with hilarity. And hilarity is a good launchpad for fic writing.

Why not just write orig, you ask, if you can't be bothered with finding out about fanon/canon/shmanon? *shrugs* I just can't be bothered right now. Also, the FUN FACTOR is not as wild! The very absurdity!

Also: should this Merlin fic be rps or fps? Rps promises fun with silly mediaeval hats and speech affectations taken from Cadbury chocolate ads ('Whatnot, where goest thou? Thy lips are as mauve as the shanks of my trusted steed.', and so forth. Does the fanon maybe abound in these???) but fps promises ... fun tout court. Because for fps, it really does take all of 5 minutes to get into canon.

So, please? *bats eyelashes*

A fic for fanon?
And a clip for canon?

I thank ye greatly. *bows and flourishes liripipe*

Try Merlin: The Road to Camelot (Fandom Overview). That should give you an idea what the show and the characters are about and it links to other awesome introductory guides.

ETA: My Merlin fic, vid and fanart recs.

A fic for fanon? And a clip for canon?

ETA 2: Droit de Seigneur for fic and The Bitch Prince for vid.

Wow, this is AMAZING. You are good at insta-recs. I've printed out the fic, and I've watched the vid (although I liked that other one you linked earlier much better; more smouldering) and I read the infos and recs and discovered that VICTOR MELDREW is in Merlin (but maybe this means nothing to you, not living in the UK...?).

And what is with the 1970s leather jackets and neck scarves and the 2000s skinny jeans? Is time travel involved??

I'm just organized. Don't hold it against me! *g*

You had already found my like to Solanyxe's vid so I had to pick something else. If you are looking for smoldering, I give you this: Every Fear You've Ever Faced. :D :D

but maybe this means nothing to you, not living in the UK...?)

Sadly, no, I've never heard of him, but every reason to watch Merlin is a good one!

I can't remember the actual actor's name but he plays a crotchety old-age pensioner in a comedy TV series called One Foot in the Grave. He's called Victor Meldrew and is famous in the UK! I love him as Victor Meldrew! He plays Gaius in Merlin. His famous tagline in One Foot in the Grave was "I don't believe it!"

Ah, okay. I knew the actor was well known in the UK but I wasn't familiar with his work (I'm very bad with actor names /o\). And now I understand the "I don't believe it!" joke in that one interview where someone asked Bradley James (Arthur) whether he were ever tempted to use this line when talking to the other actor. (Bradley said he did it, just once, and it was by accident because Victor Meldrew was so incredibly good at table tennis and Bradly just couldn't believe it when he saw it. *g*)

They're paratroopers! No icy waves :) And only a few trenches. Icy forests though, and foxholes, Dutch fields, Belgian towns, French towns, the Eagle's Nest, Goering's wine cellar, Berchtesgarden, Zell am See... Something for everybody!

Eek! I just did. Except the children wouldn't let me watch more than ten minutes, claiming it was 'crap' and that my 'Livejournal people have terrible taste'. And then they switched to the X-Factor! *rolls eyes*

But. It's got Victor Meldrew! Why did nobody tell me it had Victor Meldrew? I can totally slash Victor Meldrew. (Once I find out his fps name, er.) And Victor Meldrew said, "This is a tincture made from the [livejournal.com profile] lobelia flower!

The eleventh finger!!

Hrithik is sort of kinda intriguing but I don't find him as hot as Aamir or Shahrukh or even Salman. And tonight I feel like only slashing hot boys.

Or old men.

Shahrukh has grown on me. Mainly because I am a slave to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. *sighs* And to Dil Se. Also, because of the screamingly camp Dard-e-disco song in Om Shanti Om and SRK's six-pack.

But Aamir has a certain something. Those fleshy arms! Those pixie ears! Those eyebrows.
