I have discovered what nearly all of my favourite Bollywood filmi songs have in common: they are all sung by Sukhwinder Singh.

Wow. And I never knew. Until just now. I realised he sang 'Chayya Chayya' (*swoons*) and then today I suddenly realised he also sings 'Dard-e-disco' (a song I don't even want to like but just can't help listening to and getting a big grin on my face!), and then I googled and he sings 'Laga Laga' (or whatever it's called) from Tere naam (*loves!*) and 'Haule Haule' (how did I not recognise his voice?) and... and...

He has a gorgeous voice. It is like warm treacle and just glides into every note of every song, effortlessly. Plus he adds little swoonsome inbetween noises and is just brilliant.

After becoming 'cool':

(popping in from friendsfriends) Just sharing in the Sukhwinder love, I don't know how big the movie Astitva got so I feel this gem often gets lost, but the song Chal Chal is probably one of my favorites of his (if you haven't heard it before, you can hear it on youtube here). I think the music was by him as well :)

Oh, thank you for popping by via friendsfriends!! How lovely to encounter another Sukhwinder lover. And thank you for that song! It is gorgeous! I can imagine it slowly creeping up and growing on you. And you're right, he did write it, with someone called Rahul Ranenda (oh, can't remember the spelling!!). I didn't realise he wrote music as well; I am so impressed. See you around more, I hope! (I'll be offline for about 2 weeks because the laptop is going in for repairs but thereafter...!)

haha, definitely like the 'before' look. gorgeous voice, either way, he's pretty much my favourite, too. smooth, yeah, but not predictable and bland like a lot of playback singers seem (to me at least). and here is another song that continues to blow me away some... ten years? since i first heard it.

Heer - Sandeep Chowta featuring Sukhwinder Singh (http://www.sendspace.com/file/pz17j4).

Oh, thank you! Am just starting to listen to it now. What is the film? Heer? Is it worth seeing or just worth listening to? isn't the 'before' look priceless? Very endearing! Well, I'm going to be offline for about two weeks but then I'll definitely be back and trawling the web and the friendslist for sukhwinder recs. Oh, this song you recced is gorgeous! Spine-shivering!

this is a little unusual: it's not from a film at all; it's from Sandeep Chowta's album (where he collaborates with a bunch of musicians/singers including Sukhwinder) Mitti. Indipop with undercurrents of electronica, you could say. and yeah, spine-shivering is a perfect descriptor.
