I think it'll be nicer: I am sick of adverts and of worrying what LJ will suppress next. And I think it's more flexible in terms of watching / reading / friending. (I believe I'll be able to watch LJ from my DW account, though am not sure if this is true.)
You will note I have reverted to my ancient identity!
I still don't understand why you can't. I promise I have not blocked you! But you do need to be logged into OpenID *before* you comment.
I don't see ads on my LJ account, but I see 'em on communities and the like, and they vex me.
DW more flexible because it splits out what you want to read from who you want to be able to read your locked posts -- there's a 'subscribe to' (what appears on your reading list) and a 'grant access' (who can read locked posts). Haven't fiddled with filters yet, and still not sure if I can include non-DW stuff on my reading list, but should be able to manage f(r)iends and stuff more easily: wanting to read someone's fic doesn't always mean I want to be their Friend and have them read my tortured angst.
Also also! LOTS OF ICONS: I do miss my vast array of icons now I've reverted, here, to basic account ... Icon on this comment is the one that, when I loaded it for a fic, it destroyed all my inactive ones. Pah.
I have no intention of leaving. I am way too attached to the history of my LJ and all the connections herein. I might be over there as well, but I'll definitely still be here.
Dude, I'm not going anywhere. I may eventually join there as well but I am way too attached to here to completely go. Plus I still don't trust that I can follow and be followed quite interactively completely over at DW.
As for getting a code now, I don't see the point, particularly since it's in closed beta meaning if you do get a code now and create an account, it should mean that you have time to poke at things and let others know what you've noticed works and what doesn't. No point in participating in a closed beta if you're not going to take the time to actively participate, I think. But maybe that's just me?
Okay, I get it. I'll just coast along as I am, then. As life has shown me, I am very resistant to change. Even good change. This new word of 'following' somebody -- is this all twitter-influenced? Nobody used to talk like that.
And even though I said I wouldn't do it, when I got an invite yesterday, I went ahead and created a dreamwidth account. Though really, I'm not going to be doing anything with it for now, but the pull of snagging my username was... too strong for me to resist, lol. LJ is still my home, though.
As for following, I wouldn't say it's twitter-influenced exactly, more a reflection of how DW is handling the whole "friending" thing. you no longer friend people but you "subscribe" to journals and/or you "grant access" to yours. Though yeah, maybe the exact term of "following" comes from twitter, dunno.

Date: 2009-04-21 10:13 pm (UTC)So it's just a kind of rushing-to-the-top-of-the-queue frenzy, then?
Also, what do we do once everyone has left LJ?

I agree re the worrying about LJ. And I trust Synecdochic totally.
How is DW more flexible in terms of watching?
Reading?
FrEInding?
Yes, ancient identity, I noticed right away!
