Maybe your black dog can go and play with my black dog, and then they might leave us alone for a bit?

That would be so good!! They can mate in a corner of Tesco's carpark and have lots of little black puppies and chase their tail and forget all about us as we sneak away with our alcohol in a brown paper bag!!

I have absolutely no clue. It's not that I'm happy, but not actively unhappy is a good change.

Maybe the quest for the elusive grail of happiness is misleading, anyway, and in itself destructive.

Actually, those are lyrics from The Bonzo Dog Band's "Jollity Farm."

I hope you're feeling better. :)

Oh.

I'm so out of the loop. Now it makes sense! I thought it was a surreal way of cheering me up! :-)

Hope your black dog moves on soon.

Black Dog appears as a (non-speaking) character in Caryl Churchil's play The Skriker, which is a walk through the darker side of British otherworld traditions.

The Skriker! I love Caryl Churchill! I haven't read that play. Isn't Black Dog also a feature of a heavy metal / hard rock song of the 70s?

I belive you may be right. Also there's a village called Black Dog in Devon - with maybe a legend attached (certainly they have a "black dog" folk ceremony nowadays, but it's a very recent "tradition").

See if you can get hold of the Churchill play - there's some dazzling use of language!

Boo to black dog. Chase it away! Throw printouts of jolly feel-good fanfiction at it!

Yes. A good point! In fact, this is incredibly practical advice!
