Harry Potter and working with child actors
Jul. 1st, 2009 10:17 amYou make the first Harry Potter film in 2001 and then you make a whole bunch more and before you know it, your child actors have grown up, and they have done so not always according to expectations and book-canon plan!
A look in pictures at the HP actors then and now! (I am so highly amused by this.)
Draco Malfoy: pick a pale dweebie meanie with greased-back hair...

... and he grows up into a creamy bit of hottie delicious enough to lick right off the screen. And just look at that philtrum. Tom Felton!!

Hermione Granger: Pick a determined little missie (who looks very little like canon but okay, we'll let that one go)...

...and she grows up into a tawny-maned lipsticked lassie. Emma Watson!!

Pick two identical-looking pudgy punks with scowling eyes for Crabbe and Goyle...

... and watch one of them grow into a sweaty pudgy punk, virtually unchanged from his younger self or from canon (Jamie Waylett!), and the other into a disconcerting pretty boy! (Josh Herdman!!)

Which one's which, eh? And how are you now going to deploy these two as identical guardian thugs of philtrum-wielding Malfoy?
Dudley Dursley: Pick a fat-arse ugly dude with piggy eyes...

... and watch him group up to be this little hottie!! Harry Melling!!

Ron Weasley: Pick an odd-looking tousle-eyed chappie...

... and grow him into an, er, odd-looking tousle-eyed chappie. Rupert Grint!

Phew. At least one who didn't pop up as a surprise... *gg*
Bonus pics of Felton/Malfoy/Peagreen Clock:

Then. Now.

So!
Who do you think underwent the most impressive transformation growing up?
I've cast my vote... *g*
ETA:
helenish pointed out one omission in my post!!
Neville Longbottom: Take one cute little wood-elf with baby-pudge cheeks (not to mention the false teeth and ear-extenders you make him wear)...

... and watch him grow up into a sultry emo-boy. Matt Lewis!!
.
More ETA: And are they all legal now? Are they all *gasp* rpsable?

Date: 2009-07-01 09:53 am (UTC)He went from pug-ugly pudgy teen to blossom into a smouldering well-fit young man! Go Goyle.
Second vote: Harry Melling! (Although: beware the Elijah-Wood eyes.)
These young men really made something of themselves.
Felton? Was always gorgeous. *shrugs*

Date: 2009-07-01 06:07 pm (UTC)Oh! Did you listen to the Today Programme this morning? Thought for the day was about RPF!!!! Thank god I wasn't eating my breakfast, I'd have been all over cornflakes!

Date: 2009-07-01 10:19 pm (UTC)Thought of the Day?
................................
Wh...
I don't know whether to run for cover or whether to hunt out the BBC podcast thingy. I thought you fled the room when the dreaded Thought appeared!!
Neville is entirely due to the helpful nudgings of

Date: 2009-07-03 08:30 am (UTC)I do normally try to avoid the Thought, but I've been getting up earlier due to hot weather, and so the Thought occurs at a different point in my morning routine.

Date: 2009-07-03 10:19 pm (UTC)Darryn who? And excuse me: Darryn? A pseudonym for a woman or a man? I mean: a man! *scoffs*
I am starting to convert to your thought on the Thought. Fanfic incites people to violence? Yeah, right.
Okay, second thoughts (not Thought!): I do sometimes have compunctions about rps. Didn't we all, back in the day? Like not rushing up to the actual real life persons and thrusting your fanfic at them (remember? it was done!). Like not writing about people's children. Or about people who are children .
Oh, I don't know! I don't want all this debate aired on RADIO FOUR!

Don't worry, they'll forget about us for a bit now ('til the next "OOH, look at these weird people on the internet!" article, anyway).

Date: 2009-07-06 12:46 pm (UTC)How come it took me 25 years even to find my first fanfic or to get my head around the notion of such a thing, and nowadays just any old bloke can stumble across it?
Oh interwebs, where is thy sekrit hidey cave?
