Snow!

It is so exciting. Last night, the snowing started. The sky was low and grey. The air was freezing cold but warmed up as soon as the snow came. It was lovely snow! Soft and fluffy and light but also sticky and standing up by itself. Ideal for snowmen and snowballs.

C--shire, of course, grinds to a halt as soon as the first snow flake makes its appearance but I didn't even attempt to set foot in the car and just walked everywhere. Some women wore stiletto high heels and flat soles, and these were the middle aged ladies! The teenies all seem to be kitted out in ugh boots or hiking shoes, waterproof trousers and colourful headgear, ready for snowball fights. One elderly gentleman fell on his bum ahead of me on the pavement; I held onto a pole and told him, "I'll hold on to this pole and you hold on to me to get up." One friend appeared with a slotted spoon, ready to fish for a ring he'd lost last night in the blizzard after coming home from London 3 hours late because nearly all the trains were cancelled. And he found it! He trawled a 10-foot black-sludge puddle with his spoon!

I was snug and smug in double socks and hiking boots, thermal long johns, two pairs of underpants, two pairs of gloves, 5 layers on top and two scarves.

I hope there'll be more snow in the night. T'boys are in ecstasy. Everything is heightened.

I love the snow! Even though I'm wearing the same elderly boots I wear every winter, and they're not very waterproof, and I sat at my desk with wet feet all morning.

Hah! The all-knowing mums! I am one myself now and am constantly and sagely lecturing the fashion-conscious and resistant youths in my house on the importance of wearing teh hiking boots plus two pairs of socks. At least you have the wellies! Although they have not as much grip, I find, and you probably need three pairs of socks.

Also, t'h is trapped in Paris so that's the downside of the snow. 'Conditions climatiques extremes'. Goodness.
