I saw Sherlock Holmes yesterday and had great fun.

But: what is there for us slashers left to do with films such as this??!

Also Jude Law. He can be an awful prat at times and has been, in films, unbelievably Pretty and unbelievably obnoxious. In this one, I liked him a lot. Prettiness toned down in favour of rather hunky manliness, what with the hairy arms and the buddy-manner vis-à-vis Holmes.

Holmes: with suitably crazed eyes and wild hair.

I enjoyed it too! And hell yes with the hunky manliness and hairy arms, Jude Law!

He was so understatedly manly!!! Who'd have thought it? I swooned over him in that film whose name now escapes me, the one about philosophy. He was like some God of Beauty. And then I saw Alfie and cringed.

I haven't seen it - initally I'd decided to be grumpy about it and not bother. I thought the trailer was annoying and I was being contrary because everyone was excited about it. But now I rather want to see it! I'm nothing if not fickle. I want to see Jude's Watson - Watson is normally done so badly.

I've always loved those Holmes illustrations, though. I made some of them into icons, back before I slimmed this operation down to non-paid-account status.

It's not as over-the-moonly amazing as some make it out to me but it is good fun and a good romp and just phenomenally... well, I won't say slashy because um, what is subtext, plz? Let's say: homosocial. Jude's Watson is not bad at all! And I went in highly sceptical!

I don't remember your Holmes icons...? :-(

The nearest I can get to a detectival icon is Mr Wainthropp!

omg, Shels, it just occurred to me: Wainthropp/Holmes crossover. *runs away very, very fast*

Stop that! That's both naughty and... most unlikely. ;)

Nope, I didn't use my Holmes icons much, but I enjoyed making them.

In other news, I tried to get around the fact that I never get comment notifications for your comments by tracking this post instead. I'm not getting notifications for that either. So I can only talk to you by making careful mental notes of everywhere and when we have exchanged comments.

Welcome to my world.

Comment notifications? I suppose I could check out my email account now and again... Ever since the LJ messaging thingy stopped working for me, I drift in a fog of who? what?

I don't know how you do it - I rely on those darn things! Email controls my life! I even opened a support request with LJ, but apparently it's all working at their end - the messages are just not getting to me. Ah well. It's weird though, I get everyone else's.

I relied on the messaging thingy, remember that? LJ notifications or whatever. Then my messaging in-bag or whatever got too big and died. Apparently you've got to delete the notifications every now and again but I can't delete them now because I can't access them! After that I gave up and drift through fog. I have terrible name and face memory so this state of affairs is kind of a replica of my real life...

i recommend watching it, ducky. it's a lot of fun - there's some talking and deducing and cleverness, but there's also THINGS BLOWING UP! watson is smart and a bit more than just a sidekick in this.

I'll probably put it on my list of things to see when they come out DVD - sounds like an enjoyable evening. :)

And hmm... it seems I don't get comment notifications for any comments posted in Lobelia's journal either... strange goings on.

i wanna watch this movie but non can do here in Heidelberg or in Mannheim if you want the original version. And Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes without the voice? Nah. So I shall hope that they still show it in Berlin when I get there in two weeks...

the slashibility...yes. Even in the trailer. Holy moly. And I love how you wrote about how Pretty Jude Law is. Totally deserves a capital P. the prat. Hah.

i'm glad you liked it - lovely eye candy and lots of explosions, and yet they managed to squeeze in how holmes' brain works.

I did like it a lot! I was wonderfully good fun! And all that 'old boy', 'old chum' stuff totally charmed me!

hahah! the bit where watson called holmes 'old cock' and holmes retaliated with 'mother hen' had me wriggling with glee.
