All week I have been asking all and sundry 'So what's your view on goal-line technology?'

Four days ago I had never even heard those dulcet words evah! I didn't even know that anybody was remotely contemplating sticking chips in balls or cameras on goal lines.

And I ask that question tongue in cheek, and my interlocutors always go 'hahah' and pretend not to be interested but they always answer and they always answer at length and with passion.

It's better than the weather, I tell you! This is the top conversational gambit for Everybody!

I honestly hope they never introduce the cameras and such stuff. One part of the appeal of the game is that the rules are the same on the playgrounds in the slums of African cities or beach of Sao Paolo or the fanciest, newest stadium that just hosted the WC.

Introducing technology will take away the fun and the charm.

I'm sceptical of goal line technology and this is an argument I'd not heard. I like it!

except in the US where we loftily refer to our adoption of said technologies even in ice hockey, ferchrissake.
