lobelia321Ever since the opening game of the World Cup 3 weeks ago, I have loved Ravshan Irmatov.
And the ref fandom is a tricky fandom! Not for us the instant clickety gratification of endless pics of droolsomeness. Information and visual glory must be hunted down with great cunning. But when you find it: oh the pay-off!
Is this the most gorgeous and awesome man on the pitch? Answer: Yes.
Irmatov and thumbs up. He spreads good cheer at the start of matches and smiles and gestures at players, as if to say "I know what you're up to, mates, but hey, let's just all do this thing and not get up to any naughty business, eh? Also, I love you all."

The team are the assistants Bakhadyr Kochkarov (from Kyrgyzstan) and Rafael Ilyasov (Uzbekistan), with the fourth official Subkhiddin Mohd Salleh (Malaysia).
And look! Irmatov wears a watch on each wrist!

What I love!! Irmatov's trademark gesture: hands out flat in front, palms down, piston-motion with the lower arms from the elbows down. This one says "Calm down, calm down, calm down. I know you're 22 hot-blooded, hormone-fuelled, raging blokes full of bollocks but you must: Calm down. Calm down. Calm down. Because look at me: I am a calm, calm thing. Also, I'll whoop your ass if you get out of line."

Netherlands:Uruguay! A fray! Irmatov to the rescue! He defrays the fray! He knows no fray-fear! No player dares talk back to him or do that 'hey ref change your mind' thing. He calms everyone down. Then he whips out his yellow card. (But he gives very few cards. He lets them get on with things. He prefers to warn them with the Calm Down gesture and the I'm Looking At You eyes. Guh.)

Nor will he take any nonsense. In the Uruguay:Netherlands game, he just ran past a dissimulating player who was rolling on the grass, didn't even look at him, just gestured "get up, get up" with his hands in passing because he had better things to do. No pic of that supreme moment but this gives a flavour.

So: awesome, beautiful, sex on legs, attractive in a variety of fashion colours, flanked by teh cute in the person of assistants and linesmen, in there with all the football boys!, cute in a suit, and oh so masterful and exuding calm authority on the pitch.
I include the Collina icon because Pierluigi Collina, now retired, was the Best Ref Evah but guess what? Irmatov has spent hours studying footage of his hero Collina and is emulating his style! I knew it!!
He has the same don't-mess-with-me authority on the pitch. He calms things down before they get out of hand. Have you noticed that he never runs up to players to show them a card but always walks? Very calmly, and then very calmly, he says a word or two and shows the card.
I hope he refs the Final. I want to see him All The Time!
And if I had the time, I'd now do manager love. Because somehow, while I love the players, this World Cup is all about the Manly Men for me (while 2006 was all about they Pouty Boys).

You EVIL woman, you!!! Now I can't get out of my mind this exact scene between Harry as a referee and Draco as a footballer!!! Referee Harry knows no fear! He'll happily whoop Draco's ass if Draco gets out of line!
Oh oh, Irmatov's indeed something else - your pics and fannish enthusiasm made me see him in a new light! A watch in each wrist! Fuzzy haircut! Picture 5: in hot red and with raised eyebrow! Picture 7: walking in the middle, like he OWNS the field!!!
