I was wearing my Germany shirt but Germany did not win!

Spain won!

Spain was brilliant!

So it is not entirely annoying. Because it was a clean win: goal in, that's it. No off-side kerfuffle. No dubious ref decisions (Viktor, I love you; please get it on with Ravshan). No disallowed goals, last-minute penalty misses, sekrit fouls or hands of the devil cheating.

And I am happy that someone will be champion this year who has never, ever been champion! And that happens very rarely! The only countries who have been champion only once are England and France; the rest is Italy, Argentina, Uruguay, Germany, Brazil, all multiple victors.

So I'm happy for either Spain or Netherlands except I'm actually happier for Spain. Because they're prettier. And now that Germany's out and Ghana's out and Cameroon's out and Uruguay' still in (argh), I'm shallow.

And if Irmatov or Kassai ref the final, I'll be happy. Plus I'll get to see Germany play while I'm in Germany. Happy happy.

I'm looking dreamily at Diego Forlan/Baby Goalie (consolation slash which would work for either the semi or the "bronze medal" clash on Saturday depending on what happens). Germany HAVE to win that! I couldn't bear to see Schweini's tears AGAIN.

If I was paying proper attention I would be rooting for the Netherlands. Why? Er, I dunno.

*dies*

(I, of course, fiercely combine both irrelevances. *dies some more*)

What am I to do with this gacked bunny???!

*blinks innocently* I really couldn't say. I'm only here to forcefeed you background information:

DM is not a football fan, although he is an apostrophe fan.

But you might be interested in this picture, which DM's flatmate explains thusly on his blog:

This is a picture of what the kitchen looked like during the World Cup in 2006. It was an experiment in making it look as horrible as possible, and of teasing the local football-hating capitalists*. The LFHCs didn't rise to the bait, never, not once, to my face. Not to my face is a different story. Observers of these events declared that the LFHCs had won this mental battle. I say: it's a mental war, not a mental battle.

(This is context for a pictorial account (pt1, pt2, pt3, pt4, pt5) by aforementioned flatmate of the ravamping of said kitchen after basically being made to by DM's parents. All the stuff about the kitchen is basically brilliant and hilarious.)

*read DM

I must go now. I fear I have said too much already. I blame [livejournal.com profile] lazulus even though she will definitely blame me.

I am hopelessly lost to the kitchen.

Who is this Robert Hudson? Where are pics of him? Does he really live with DM? Dm has a flatmate??? The cuteness is at danger level!!!!

Apostrophes! *feels faint*

Technically his lodger, I believe.

This be him. This be his novel.

DM's flat from an outsider's perspective.

(I feel bad, like an accidental crack dealer. But I can't stop.)

I am having little implosions, yanking the crack out of your hands at the surreptitious street corner before it's even cooled down. Or something.

David Mitchell! In his flat!!!

I just ... I just find it incredibly awkward. So what I've ended up doing is a bit of a disaster, not really embracing that in the normal way but very occasionally, very pissedly getting off with someone.

This is like fanon come TRUE!!!!! *weeps with it all*

He doesn't want to leave his flat! Ever! Especially not for the USA! (David, you iz me!)

And he has a pre-everything TV because the fads just come and go.

*laps it all up and is 180 degree convert*

How fanon is that???

David Mitchell also studied history at Cambridge - he just seems to hang out with his old Cambridge pals.

Anyway, so all of this is obviously way too close for comfort, and I suggest you STEP AWAY FROM THE CRACK NOW. ;)

I did feel on one occasion that ref should have called foul, but otherwise, yeah, it was a clean win. We were also rooting for Germany, but men, somehow I felt that Germany (even before that damn octopussy chose spanish ball) will not be the winning team.

I am rooting for Spain now, for simple reason that Snijder behaves like a spoiled brattish bully - and that is not acceptable for a star of his level. (WTF was that push during the Uruguay game?) He should have worked on being better sportsman.
