LJ pissed off

For the first time ever, I am contemplating leaving LJ.

I have been loyal for very long. All sorts of kerfuffles have come and gone. Journalfen came; Dreamwidth came; Friends left in droves; I held fast.

But now LJ has deleted all but 6 of my userpics and has deleted my entire scrapbook!!! Plus I see ADVERTISEMENTS ARGH SHOCK HORROR SELF-ELECTROCUTE.

Now I found out why. My debit card had expired and my automatic payment couldn't be processed. So 1 week after the event they zapped my LJ. They sent one email to warn me of this to my email account, an email account I rarely check. Nothing was sent to my Messages on LJ. You'd have thought that after having been on annual renewal with LJ since 2002, they'd have given me some more benefit of the doubt than just one measly week.

I am majorly pissed off. Majorly Pissed Off.

Shelsie pointed out that she always lets it lapse and then it gets reinstated, and then I pointed out that I was so miffed that I was determined nevah evah to give money to these low-lifes again.

Except to get back my gazillion pics of Cristiano Ronaldo and Rodney McKay. Possibly.

That is very rubbish of them. :( I think a complaint would be fair enough.

But shouldn't the pics come back as soon as you renew? I always let mine lapse and when I finally get round to paying the stuff is reinstated.

Aha! Reinstated! I am so miffed now that I stomped my foot (not literally; too lazy for that) and decided Nevah! Nevah will I give my money to these lowlifes evah again!

Except to get my userpics back, of course. And my 239 photos of Cristiano Ronaldo.

When I let my paid account go, I didn't realize I I couldn't access my scrapbook until afterwards. >.< So I shelled out the minimum amount of money, got my scrapbook back, deleted everything and let the paid account relapse again. Grrr.

Happened to me last week. I got a message saying "you're about to renew" and I thought, cool. Then in a succession of literally 4 emails in half an hour I got a message saying "card declined" and THEN told my account went free and all my icons were gone etc.

I still wasn't worried, but when I went to reinstate it the options i'd signed up originally on were not there. I could only buy 70 pics or something when i'd had 130 originally.

Majorly upset. BUT when I then reinstated, it automatically went back to all the user icons I had! So they scared me for nothing.

Sigh. Always something. I guess the one thing LJ has going for it is that it's so large (with a corporate owner) that it stands a chance of sticking around for a long long time. I don't see Dreamwidth in that fashion (they're smaller and have less funding, customers, etc). If I was going to leave LJ, I'd go to blogspot which has a large client base.

Recently, I've found that a lot of the free image hosting sites have started cutting back too. If you don't log into your account for a few months, your images will eventually stop working. Imgur.com has images stop working if they get no views for two months. I guess there's no so many people online using the free hosting that companies are cutting back.
