I am intrigued that in some parts of the world this is a day of witches. The Befana in Italy, and this evening Radio Four informed me that in Romania the witches (yes, the witches) are up in arms because they are now having to pay income tax on their witchetty doings!

Magi, of course, also means 'magician' even though the 3 Oriental dudes are called Heilige Drei Könige in German (Holy Three Kings) but sometimes also known as 'Magier'.

Oh, the implications for HP fic...!!!

Hee! This kind of reminds me of the US laws that require thieves and grifters to pay tax, such that a lot of big-time criminals in the past were actually indicted on tax evasion, mostly as an excuse.

Absolutely hilarious. Wasn't Al Capone nabbed on that one?

Huh, and by sheer coincidence I just listened to Hunting for Witches a minute ago (first thing that came into my head when I had a brief space alone and thought music might purify). Though "It means that our magic gifts are recognised and I can open my own practice," Mihaela Minca said, so it's the opposite of witch hunts really.
