Help with hi-res pic, plz plz????
Mar. 9th, 2011 06:15 pmDear listsibs and freinds
I have found what I want to be my icon but I don't know how to make screencaps from a DVD (my Mac won't allow it) and this pic is from a crappy youtube still and is crap. I would love a high resolution version of just this, and does anyone know how to get this???

It is from the final minutes of Inception when they all wake up in the plane (and Cobb exchanges looks of love with Saito).
Thank you, my darlings, in advance for techie wondrousness!

Date: 2011-03-09 10:36 pm (UTC)I have just finished rewatching the film again, and suddenly it occurred to me: the Saito/Cobb love is so canon! "We can be young men together again." This is so happening after I've finished my current Japanese schoolgirl Arthur / Eames fic. But also Yusuf -- Yusuf is also next.

No really? Lol, but seriously, I totally agree. If I had been asked right after watching the movie 'is there a pairing that you can see from outer space?' then that would have been it! While watching I couldn't stop thinking it.
They're really intriguing and interesting together... They can talk ethics and philosophy and go on adventures and be young men together, lol x)
Yusuf's lots of unused potential so far...

Date: 2011-03-12 05:39 am (UTC)Shortcuts for taking pictures of the screen
Use these shortcuts to take pictures of the screen in Mac OS X.
Screen shots are saved as files on the desktop (the shots are saved as PDFs named Picture1, Picture2, etc), but if you prefer to put the screen shot in the Clipboard, hold down the Control key while you press the other keys. You can then paste the picture into a document.
Take a picture of the whole screen:
Command (⌘)-Shift-3
Take a picture of part of the screen
Command (⌘)-Shift-4, and then drag the crosshair pointer to select the area. Continue to press the mouse button, release the keys, and then press Shift, Option, or the Space bar while you drag to resize the selection area. When you are ready to take a picture, release the mouse button.
To cancel, press Escape.
Take a picture of a window or the menu bar (I use this very frequently)
Command (⌘)-Shift-4, press the Space Bar, move the camera pointer over the area to highlight it, and then click.
To cancel, press Escape.

Sadly, you can not use this to take a screen grab in Apple's DVD Player - Apple had to disable that ability in order to gain permission from the media monopolies to play DVDs at all. Apps like DVD Snap use slight of hand to let you take a screen shot of what's currently on the DVD Player.
VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html) is a fabulous Swiss Army knife that will play a great number of video files that Apple's QuickTime can't play and it does not abide by Apple's media licensing limitations so you can take a shot of whatever VLC is playing - or as physicsxmagic pointed out you can use VLC's built in Snapshot command and it will dump the image in your Pictures folder by default - though you can change that in its Preferences. VLC's playback controls are nowhere near as responsive as those in Apple's DVD Player so we have a very hard time nailing the exact frame we want to get a shot of. We usually spend several minutes going forward and back before we get it right.
And yes, Fileg and I have been using Macs since they first came out.
