Almost there with 150k HP

In mid-January, I dusted off my Draco/Dudley/Harry fic. Begun in 2003 (yes!), enthusiastically revived during an epic 100k nano in 2019, this fic is now around 150,000 words long. I have been spending an hour a day whipping it into print-outable, beta'able shape! Sitting outside cafés in wintry temperatures, with winds flapping my laptop screen shut and viruses lurking in the warm indoors. Are there even still HP betas out there? Bits of this were, to my amazement and judging from decades old notes to self, beta'ed by people now lost to time and the internet.

But still: go me yay. And go past!me who made up this obsession-inducing head canon of boxer!hairdresser!Dudley and sorcerer's apprentice/ layabout/ Bob the Builder lusting!Draco. And lashes of Nazi angst.

Wow, that is dedication! I think the longest I ever worked on a fic from beginning to posting was eight years.

8 years is also very long. I was discouraged by my long hiatus and wrote my long fic off as unfinished and never to be finished but then the bug bit me (several times over the years). Both fandom and canon have moved on which is a liability with these unfinished WIPs.
